Coworker lent me all 15 volumes of this to read this weekend. Interesting stuff, and not at all my usual purview. I'm tempted to see how the movie adaptation was done, but, being me, knowing that there's less prurient content is kind of a bummer (shocking nobody, even though she was fucking psycho, one of the antagonists was portrayed as being rather hot). Returning him the favor, I'll be loaning him my copy of The Bachman Books, with the recommendation that he skip over Roadwork. I'm re-reading the other three, because I have continued to forget to get my ass to B&N to pick up Steve Brust's Jhegalaa and Gardner Dozois' latest installment of The Year's Best Science Fiction.
Useless Rafe Trivia Tidbit: At the thoroughly unscrupulous editing gig I had in the late 90's, when I had to come up with a nom de bullshit, I used the protagonist's from The Long Walk. Nobody ever caught it.
Also, [livejournal.com profile] icylic reminds us:

Voting Procedure: Large Turnout Expected

Remember, due to expected large turnouts at the polls, this year third parties will be voting on Nov 4th, Democrats on Nov 5th, and Republicans on Nov 6th.

Please pass this message around.

Thank you for your cooperation.

*snerk*

Karma for my sleep-deprived antagonism yesterday (yes, you're absolutely right, I was (and am) being a complete asshole about this; I will return to being my baseline flavor of generalized asshole in two weeks) was delivered in the form of another lousy night's sleep followed by coffee to the keyboard.
