Whereas I do believe that having a common language is a very important thing in any given country (things like 911 calls make it imperative that the two parties be able to communicate), my issue with the woman is that she doesn't speak English herself. At least, she can't write it.
I don't speak any other languages. So, I make it my business to be literate in the one I have.
