my current windows? don't have screens. they're 90 years old, single pane, single-hung. if i want any kind of ventilation, it's by shoe-horning those flimsy collapsible screen frames into the opening. they don't offer an insect-proof option by any stretch.
the improved thermal efficiency and sound deadening are the big reasons for doing this, but, honestly, there are a few months a year when i'd much prefer to have fresh air moving through the house and haven't been able to do so.
