Taxing

So, I've got one of 2 W-2s, my mortgage tax form, and sat down to poke at the H&R Block site last night. . .

Okay, other than not remembering my old username (which I retrieved with prompting, and immediately stopped directing to the still-hosed yahoo email addy). . .

Has anyone gotten their site to work yet? I get punted back out from the loading popup window in both Moz 1.8 and IE6.

My Axis-inspired Tax Tips for Charlatans will be forthcoming. Hie on, deductions!

I have successfully used their site this year, but didn't file my taxes with them. I ran it on turbo tax as well, who stated that I got $108 refund back from the state of Utah. H&R Block told me that I owed over $2000, so something just might be up with their site.

I've never gotten it to work properly, and won't use them anymore. Last time I tried it, it attempted to tell me that I owed NYS about 9 grand, which is just not very likely for a non-resident single person at my income level claiming only a personal exemption with NY withholding being deducted. I was willing to let that slide, since the customer service peeps from the site told me they wouldn't charge me for the erroneous return and I brought it in to their offices instead (and paid through the nose for it).

What made me unhappy is not only did they charge me for it, they *doublecharged* me for it, after saying they would waive the charges. They then tried to explain to me that there was no fee for the main return, but they had charged me for the two states.

Erm, okay, but since their errors resulted in a non-fileable return, they shouldn't have charged me anything. I had to dispute it with Mastercard to get it off the bill. They've lost me as a customer for life, and considering that I need tax prep every year as I am just plain not capable of doing my own taxes, I'm pretty much a guaranteed cash cow if you don't tick me off.

Your mileage is obviously way better than mine!

Recommendation for TaxAct from 2nd Story Software. It Just Works, and works even better the second year in a row.

Ah, good to know. I've been pondering which software to get since I think I'll actually plug the numbers in myself this year.

H&R Blockheads can bite my shiny metal ass, both in person & on their website. TurboTax online is a little better, but the website was slow & clunky. I've gone back to buying the TurboTax software. A little more expensive (not much more, after the 3 rebates) & tons less headache. Where's my W2 & my 2nd mortgage form, dammit?!?!
