granted, that statement is not news.

we'd been pretty much cooling our collective heels since the first of the year. there was one client who had one thing to be wrapped up, but the boss wasn't pushing it too hard. . . okay, fine. boredom for money is ok.

he talked to the customer last week. and promised them things by friday. . . without thinking about what was involved.

let me just say,

Adobe Acrobat is the worst fucking application for composition and formatting ever devised

. what takes laughing boy three minutes to fill in poll checkboxes by hand on a hardcopy took me nearly twelve fucking hours to do with the shit-sucking text edit tool. not assisted by the boss freaking out about immaterial formatting concerns on a secondary document because he's too goddamned anal to just shove the weird shit into Appendix A and be done with it like i suggested.

he, of course, at 5:15 tonight, realized that putting them into an appendix was the best solution. ummm. . duh.

so while i was busting ass on acrobat [and bitching to [livejournal.com profile] mpeace], was he putting the finishing touches on the submission letters and printing the already-complete parts?

no.

i think he was playing Minesweeper.

look, it's bad enough that you expect miracles, but when i get no help, i -will- snap at you when you're foisting all your last-second spazzing bullshit off on me because i'm apparently the only one in the office -capable- of doing anything.

i'm gonna tell him straight-out tomorrow that if he takes the 5-10% deduction in that client's invoice that they twitched about when they got the original bill, it is -not- making my bonus disappear or shrink, because i earned that motherfucker. and if it's some token pittance, like a hundred bucks, i'm just going to drop it and walk - when i do 80% of the work, i don't think it's unreasonable to expect five to ten percent of the gross for my effort.

the lady from msft wrote back - she's overseas until 2/2, but got the writing samples i sent her just before going to tampa. boy, i hope i hear something good from redmond way next week. . .

Change the mapping on his keyboard. You should be able to do it so you can toggle it back and forth with a key combo. Apply torture as needed. Watch his head explode.

that'd only work if he ever typed anything. . . minesweeper, solitaire, and checking his stock quotes are just pointy clicky clicky

See if they have anything for me when you get to Seattle. I'll mop floors.

Frelling hell. Work sucks. I had my review Friday, followed by [livejournal.com profile] mduda confirming my suspicions that my direct supervisor has little to no say in whether I get any kind of merit increase. And uber-boss is gunning for both our hides the last few weeks.

Frell.
Need Tampa goodness. do NOT need 8-10" of snow and an ice storm.
Kill Me. Now.

Adobe Acroblat is not for composing, or for more than minor editing. If you have to do more than fix a misspelling, go back to your source document and re-export. Even if it seems like it will take longer that way, it probably won't.

Not one of them can find Seattle on a map, so I'm safe.
