Okay, not necessarily the most original utterance, but it'd been a long day.
The structural engineer the seller brought in made his report on Saturday, and the gist of it boiled down to [over the course of several conversations among him, the seller, the seller's agent, my agent, and my building inspector], "There are two structural members/boxes that absolutely need to be replaced, and the rest of the bug stuff is all cosmetic and superficial."
The seller is fixing all of the shortcomings my building inspector included in his report on Friday - structural and cosmetic alike, even a pair of minor plumbing and wiring items. My closing date won't even change, assuming the repair work meets with my inspector's followup inspection.
So, K & I will finally be checking out the house and meeting GB this weekend (Monday morning, before K heads back). We're excited, obviously.
Between that bit of good news, and checking out K's brother's pictures of their trip to Italy to see his wife's family's old stomping grounds and unwinding, it was a nice way to end what was otherwise a long, tough day.
Back to NOLA tomorrow PM (and maybe catching "Day After Tomorrow" to unwind), and then the last of the preliminary packing (with a short bit of unpacking, as one of the NOLA folks mentioned an interest in some of the CDs I've been wanting to unload, and the four of us will be doing dead cow on Friday) before we mini-caravan on Saturday.

FYI, We will be *hopefully* unpacking the PODS on Saturday. Just so you know there may be more general chaos and confusion than usual. I'll endeavor to get your room cleaned before then :-)

finally got to see your updates just now - making schweet progress, and i believe k will covet your marble mantel.
if it falls to us to help de-pod you, that's no problem. we should be getting in around dinnertime or shortly thereafter [not gonna plan to wake up at the buttcrack and hit the road this time, we'll have a nice breakfast first]. note to self: make sure to pack 802.11g card for PC.
what's your plan for the great varnishing, as far as alternate crash coordinates? i figure i can put my bedding stuff in the car, but not sleep on it. natch.

I figured Bob and I would just rent a cheap hotel room where they take pets. You're welcome to crash as well. It's only for 2 nights and I don't plan on not being in the house at all, just not sleeping there.

Someone once told me:
I agree.
It beats renting/leasing in any and every regard.
Well, except one. When things break you can't just call the landlord and go "Fix it!"
But I mean....you rent for 10 years and then move....what have you got to show for it?
