digitaldiscipline: (bitter)

This wouldn't be so funny if I hadn't inherited some honest-to-dog Chintz and a set of cutlery from the old ladies I lived next door to when I was a kid, upon which we did price research this weekend.

Speaking of the recently deceased, my dad's half-brother[1]'s wife passed away on Thanksgiving; this, again, falls into the "sad, but not unexpected" category.

And, in a similar vein, I'm kind of weirded out by seeing so many friends from high school on Facebook since I signed up to check out Xany's wedding pix and whatnot; on the one hand, it's nice to be remembered fondly, and on the other, the fact that "holy shit, we're all pushing forty and some folks really look it" coupled with some other, snarkier realizations... trippy. (Aside to El Uno Roberto: How do you get your LJ posts to show up there? I fail at cross-pollenization.)

[1] Uncle Bill is the stereotypical crazy uncle - he was the guy who'd throw you around like a rag doll as a kid, pull quarters and foam balls out of your ears and nose, and made chain mail[2] and household-item armor in the SCA, and whom I, from certain angles (especially after not shaving or getting a haircut or enough sleep for too long), look a fair bit like.

[2] He'd carry a 4"x4" bit of mailwork he'd done with a copper pattern (shaped like a capital letter e) woven into it around in his pocket; when the time was right, he'd take it out and say, "This is my E-mail." No, I have no idea where I get my sense of humor from some days....
