Okay, after all the grunting and bitching I did about my parents coming down to visit, and the various and sundry associated crap I've been meaning to get taken care of around here, it's time to pimp GMBAN. [800x600 pix under the cut - for thumbnail viewing, head to http://www.ninehells.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=RafeHouse&page=9 ]

That heinous waste of space in my backyard is slowly turning into a workshop and storage shed instead of the workout room I'd had in mind, but at least it's got electricity and a window now. Note the essentials: shelving, a grill, and extra stereo equipment. Anyone want a dual 10" subwoofer box with MTX drivers and a 180 watt Coustic amp? Sounds great, doesn't fit unobtrusively in Zim's trunk. ;-)
Back indoors. . . .

Ceiling fans! Matching, even. The ever-so-spiffy ones that
marchenland pointed out the site for were just too spendy, but these were a pretty good substitution, and not too much hassle to install. Plus, to add to the geek factor, they've got remote control for both fan speed and dimmer. Mmmm, brushed nickel.
To make space for them in the front two rooms, the old ceiling fan from the living room and the candelabra from the front rooms were migrated into the cooking and eating areas of the kitchen.

The Incredibly Blue Bathroom got funky track lighting (Mom's idea). What's fun about this is that the lights can be moved laterally and aimed in just about any direction, even while turned on.

The backyard grilling station was constructed from the bricks that formerly lived by the front porch, and the hexagonal pavers that were formerly known as The Benzene Farm. . . they'd just kind of lurked in the middle of my front yard. This will probably be expanded somewhat this weekend, since another pallet of brick-patterend pavers are being delivered to expand the driveway (not shown in this post, but pictures exist in the gallery).

Last, but not least, we repainted the fireplace and accented the inset with some brushed-steel ceramic tiles from http://www.diamondiles.com - for a quarter what it would have cost to get similar tiles from Lowes. It totally changes the look and feel of the living room, and brings it much more in line with the contemporary theme.
Not pictured, but more functional, are the window my dad installed in the garage facing the house, and the screens I tack-stripped up over a few of the windows. The last two weeks especially, the weather's been perfect for having the windows open, and now we actually can, without worrying about the cats getting out or any of the wildlife getting in.
Saturday morning, another 90 pavers arrive, and once they're in, pix of the driveway, front walk, and if I'm feeling particularly ambitious, landscaping adventures may follow.
