As Comrade Sil has done, I think it's worth saying why I'd like to see people cast their C12 vote for Tampa.

We're going to throw the party where we think you'll have the most fun.

No elaborate contrivances. No arduous schedules. No unnecessary demands on your socializing. For years, people have been saying, "Convergence is about the people, not __________." I've long been one of the most strident advocates of this attitude, because, for me, Convergence really is about seeing friends that Real Life gets in the way of the rest of the year.

Frankly, if we get to have y'all come down to party, that's good enough for me.

But there are a lot of other reasons that I think Convergence should be in Tampa. As Sil said, Florida in general, and Tampa in particular, has never gotten to play host. The closest Convergence has come has been. . . New Orleans. No offense to the folks on the NoLa committee, but your town's had a turn; there are plenty of other cities worth visiting, and plenty of other excuses to see The Big Easy. Even speaking as a former resident, if I still lived in New Orleans, I'd vote to have Convergence somewhere else, because I want to experience someplace new, even if that's through a haze of missed sleep and too many cocktails.

We have a great venue to play host for all the events, so there won't be freaks spread from hell to breakfast; with the exception of mealtime, the chances are, you'll be able to find a goodly number of folks to get social with in one of two places - the hotel, or the venue. We're only together for a few days, nothing is more frustrating than not getting to spend enough time hanging out with the folks you came to see.

Are we going to have music? Of course; there are plenty of options, and our space arrangement is flexible enough to allow for a lot of different permutations of DJs and live acts. Would it be a coup d' grace to say, "C:12 could have [insert famous band here] play"? Sure it would, but that shouldn't be why I'd cast my vote one way or the other.

We see bands with friends, we dance with friends - we can do any of these by ourselves without flinging ourselves across the country or around the world. That's what makes Convergence special. Who you do it with - your net.goth friends.

The net.goth crowd loves to party. We know. We've spun music and played bartender and hooked up and passed out and had a blast in the midst of partying right along with you. We've been to almost twenty Convergences between the four of us, both as attendees and committee members. The Suite of Doom has picked up the room party tradition EdVamp began. We've organized the annual CorpGoth dinner on a number of occasions, put on the GothCruise, and cat-herded side events for all of the above.

Why? Because doing all of those things means we'll be seeing friends.

So we're throwing a big party for our friends.

You're all invited.
