Remember that article about the Architectural Review Commission blocking the Seminole Heights Starbucks that [livejournal.com profile] theonebob shared the other day?

In the Fine Tradition of sending snarky Letters to the Editor (I come by it honestly, my dad's a staple on the Letters page of The Buffalo News, it seems), I give you this. And, furthermore, that.

Oh jeez, now I'm published.

They called me last night to ask if it was OK to print it; I figured they did the same for you?

Yes. Curious that we were the only ones to write.

Those asshats...

I think a letter to the mayor is in order. I might have time this weekend to word-wrangle it.

Was there a bungalow alert on this? If not could you ping them with the original news story and suggest a letter writing campaign to the mayor and the ARC?

There was no bungie alert.

Jaysus, Mary and Joseph! Yer *kidding*?!?!?!

I'd write myself, but I don't live there. Where I live, there are 3 Starbucks within biking distance of where I live, and a metric buttload more within 15 minutes driving time.

I cannot imagine what the problem could possibly be??? What...it's somehow a *worse* eyesore than the used car lots mentioned? What exactly are they afraid of here? I can understand fear of a bar...that people will "git all liquored up and killify someone"...but ***Coffee???***

Someone please 'splain this to me, cuz I am so not getting it...

Wait, let me clarify this.....

You're actually in favor of putting in a starbucks????

Yes, because that means that there's gentrification happening, which means a couple of good things:

- Property value for the house goes up (more; it's up almot 30% from when I bought it, due to neighborhood improvement and capital investments)

- Incentive for other nicer retail/business things to come in

- One less place for a skeevy, low-end business to stick around (there are two pawn shops, four dirtbag motels, and three used car lots within a ten five minute walk of the house)

I never said I'd actually -go- there; certainly not for their coffee... ;-)

Heh, just because there's starbucks doesn't mean jack crap about your property values going up. Take anywhere in say....buffalo for that matter. Perhaps a small joint like the spot coffee house would do that where people are enticed to stay, relax, eat, shop, etc.

If they're putting up one of those drive-thru starbucks, you can bet they're going to get out of dodge AQAP and more likely than not, you property will stagnate due to the increased traffic (like the places by the LaNova's in williamsville and walker center).

But yeah, I'd agree with your last statement to some extent.

I just wanted to check to make sure you hadn't completely lost your marbles.
