[Yep, really - la nouvelles, literally, "the news" - here ends the useless trivia portion of today's broadcast]

Friday got off to a rollicking start with a company get-together at a local watering hole (I was unable to participate in a planned softball outing because I forgot to bring shorts, and don't own a mitt)... which was briefly interrupted for a nice, mid-deluge sprint when I realized that the prevailing gale was forcing the downpour directly through my canted sunroof and into my car.  D'oh.  Damp seats and clothes, check.  One nigh unto ruined copy of Gardner Dozois' Best of the Best Science Fiction, check.  Some really good calamari, check.  Being able to talk smack to cocky coworkers, check.  Good time, check. Got home, had an abbreviated chat with [personal profile] poisongirl, and K & her mom wandered in from dinner, at which point, bed took priority.
Saturday we got some breakfast and got a behind-the-scenes look at the Lowry Park Zoo, including both K's section, some of the public-facing areas of the park, and then were pressed into service by one of her coworkers (who could be [profile] whomajigi's older sister, looks-wise) who was running late and needed a hand at the alligator feeding session.  On with some gloves, out onto a small platform surrounded by the better part of a dozen hungry alligators, and it's chicken dispensing time.  Kids, don't try this at home, but boy, that's nifty.

The womenfolk headed out to do some shopping, while I headed to Gothopia Moon Base Bravo for gaming silliness.  Not so much with the gaming, but much with the silliness, as Krys, Alex, Richard, and myself rolled up character concepts in anticipation of playing [personal profile] cavalorn's The Drow War quest series.  Gamers familiar with the max/min MO will be heartily gratified to see that we have one character with a 20 STR offset by a 3 INT and 1 CHR, and another with a 20 DEX and 21 CHA hamstrung by a 1 STR... and, just to mess with people, I'm actually going to be playing a Paladin, including the lawful-good alignment.  I don't, however, expect to use a new gaming icon, so you'll still see Grok's axe-wielding visage for Artmoth's accounts when they begin to take place.

Sunday, we took in an encore performance of Jobsite Theater's We Won't Pay! We Won't Pay! and thoroughly enjoyed it, including the new ad-libs, and adjourned to TBBC for some chow.  I also got some geek time in WoW, and managed to win the triple crown during one PvP session (most honorable kills (tie), fewest deaths (tie), most killing blows(tie))... it's astonishing how much more effective a full and semi-coordinated team is rather than an undermanned and outgunned one.  Definitely looking forward to a WharPigs session with the added goodness of voice coordination to augment our tactics. :-)  Then, K and mom watched PotC, and that's always fun.... especially with the home theater turned up to "Hey, the neighbors aren't home!" volume. *grin*

I'm sequestered at company HQ this week, which means I'm the sucker with the on-call cell phone and laptop.  Hopefully, the evil that made it ring every five minutes until 0330 has been rectified.

Tonight:  Stanley Cup, Game Seven.  At this point, while I may have a preference for one team over another, it's just the ultimate hockey experience.
