Whenever morality is based on theology, whenever right is made dependent on divine authority, the most immoral, unjust, infamous things can be justified and established.

Fan-fucking-tastic quote. I've always believed that if you need a Big-Daddy-God threatening you with eternal damnation in order to behave like a civilized human being, there's something really wrong with you.

Spiritual beliefs are fine; heck, I've been accused of having them myself from time to time. But if you can't be good to other people without them, that's not a relationship with God, it's a disorder.

I have an addendum to tack on to this fine response; If people would pay attention *to* their own spiritual beliefs, many of their tomes and texts include items addressing this very thing. Most don't seem too inclined to read the text that does not already support their pre-conceived premises, however.

I 100% agree. I'm not a Christian, but I firmly believe that Christians should read the whole Bible, and not just the parts they agree with or are told to read by their pastors. Same with Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and so on.
