Apparently their "fuck you" letter and my check crossed in the mail.

All is well, other than the fact that I pay more than two grand a year for this bullshit.

How could it cross in the mail, when the amount was posted to your account before the letter was dated? Unless their letter dates are lies, of course.

Or they sat on the check for two days - apparently, per my agent's exploration of the records, they actually cashed it on the 24th.

Hmmm... so when did it actually *clear* your account?

If it cleared before the 24th, it means they had it and cashed it before. Which means one department (that deals with received funds) and another department (that deals with account updates) are not bothering with communication. Which, crappily enough, happens with all to much regularity.
