digitaldiscipline: (clank)
This is the sort of shit I shop for when I entertain fantasies of winning the lottery on too small a scale to buy the Buffalo Sabres (no Powerball in Florida).

Motherboard: nVidia 790i-based - ~$300
CPU: Intel QX7700 - ~$1400
Video: 2x nVidia 9800 GX2 - ~$1200
RAM: 8GB Corsair Dominator XMS DDR3 (2x 4GB (2x 2GB) pairs): ~$1600
Sound: Creative X-Fi Gamer Fatal1ty - $150
Optical: Blu-Ray DVD drive - ~$140
Optical 2: 20x DVD burner/CD/RW - ~$40
SSD: 32GB SATA-II - $1100
RAID: Seagate/Hitachi 1TB 7200RPM/32MB cache - ~$300ea
Case & PSU - Cooler Master Stacker 830 SE & Real Power Pro 1000w Combo - ~$400
Speakers: Creative GigaWorks 7.1 - ~$500 (out of stock @ Mfr; can sub same series 5.1 @ ~$350)
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit - $170
Monitor: Many options in the 24-30" range, with pricing from $500-$1800, all WUXGA (1920x1200 widescreen)

So, that's about seven grand before adding in any conventional hard drives for a RAID array....

What about the M-Audio Rev7.1?

Also, if you're going for a system with a $1200 processor, you could go with a PCI-X 64 bit 266MHz RAID controller and even go dummy SAN backplane and fiberchannel.

When I win the lottery, I'll pay you to build one one of these.

When I do that, I just go to the Alienware website. I could easily make a $10K desktop.

... a winning lottery ticket, first and foremost.
