But you forgot the follow up chart, about airtime of said music.

Original Well Done Christmas Songs - 3%
Well Done Remakes or Covers - 2%
Crap that should be illegal to be forced on anyone anytime because in most civilized countries it's considered a form of torture - 95%

And this is the reason I avoid going out at all between now an New Years.

My opinion differs:

your third category is 100% of what is played on commercial radio and dedicated stations. i can't stand most of the "classics," (sorry, Der Binger and Ol' Blue Eyes fans) but do enjoy Billy Idol's take (in moderation).

The remainder is comprised of Handel's Messiah, Tchaikovski's Nutcracker Suite, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra's ouevre, which are heard sparingly on NPR (except the TSO, which might be in some commercials, and on NFL lead-ins the weekend closest to the holiday).

Ted Nugent does a version of Deck The Halls that is EVERYTHING you would expect it to be. Check out the Merry Axe-mas CD's (2 of them.) Some of the tunes are pretentious "rock god" nonsense, but some are a lot of fun. Some try to be repsectful of the material, while others rock the fuck out. Its the only Christmas music I willingly listen to.

Add Mannheim Steamroller doing Carrol of the Bells, and you've got a mix that I'll tolerate too.
