It's telling that 6 of the top 10 for 2007 were sequels (and 4 of 10 in 2006).

You can definitely see that the trend towards sequel-itis began in the late 80s.

Not even block-busters, but just ten (or nearly ten) movies that are generally considered to be pretty good, and have a lasting impact (or at least remain quotable or provide a cultural touchstone).
