Talking to a buddy in Denver, who is going to the Rockies/Rays game today, I think I finally expanded upon my dictum that "Baseball is two guys playing catch, and one guy being a dick about it."

I liked the Rockies before I moved here, for values of "like" that are appropriately accoladed to a baseball team by a hockey and football fan, which approximate "am less contemptuous of than other teams in that sport."

i prefer to think of baseball as "speed golf". furthermore, the MLB is a league with a couple of tall guys (wearing strange hats that have letters like "NY" and "LA" and "B") playing keep-away from the other shorter players.

i won't pay a dime for a baseball game 'til they impose a salary cap. level the playing field or keep the field to yourself.

The half-assed "tax" structure the league and players' union has doesn't serve as an incentive to the rich teams to cut payroll, or the shitty teams with a bunch of cheap nobodies to try and be competitive.

after having someone explain to me how the european premier league works - with the bottom teams in a given year dropping down a tier, and the winners from the lower brackets moving up one - that fear of OH FUCK WE'RE GONNA BE IN TRIPLE A UNLESS WE STOP SUCKING IMMEDIATELY might actually get teams' ownership to pony up, or at least pay some fucking attention, too.
