I've found similar issues with my own workouts. Early morning does not get record numbers out of me. I don't know at what point during the day things get better, but before the sun is up I really have issues. I don't know if I can overcome this by getting up much earlier than the workout, drinking lots of coffee, and getting myself going, but that seems a lot of effort. If you figure out a way to get better performance early on, please do share.
It was just fucking sad, really. I should not be gasping for breath from a dozen goddamned squat thrusts, and my triceps were utterly not up to the narrow pushups (admittedly, they're my weak point doing them when I -am- awake, and that's my weakest variant; getting to the point where I can do ONE one-armed pushup is going to be a red-letter day).
And yeah, early morning, I'm bleary-eyed and underperforming for the first hour or two. If I get a giant shock of adrenaline (read: actual or perceived serious crisis) I wake up and pull it together, but other than that, yeah, no. This is also part of the reason I prefer to work out at midnight rather than before my day begins.
This is going to be my m/w/f thing for the month, in addition to the rest of the shit i already do (heavy lifting is going to continue to be s/t/th/s), and intervals/sprints/etc will be whenever i feel like it, since the 5k is the 27th (which, when i pointed it out to the instructor, kind of deflated her, since she'd been planning on giving metabolic tests to folks that day, and was interested in running the race).
the race should be interesting, since there will be something like two or three dozen folks from work doing it. then again, with a crowd of seven thousand, that's not a particularly large proportion, but should still make for a decent group photo afterward.
yeah, a lot of the people i did crossfit with would prefer 6am workouts... but only did the late workout for schedule...
at that point, i was like RAWR let's get this on... and while i'm in my 40s, i sitll shocked and awed a few of them :) bwa.
i think i had a cold last week, which made all my previous injuries go "frakk you!" and that's how i express 'fever'... shit.
hopefully next week, i'll be back to running. not sure what i'm going to do about lifting, as i don't like doing it without coaching and peer pressure (as in, serious weight, deadlifting to 365++ or push-jerk, homeboy doesn't like basic press *at all*)...
I can also sympathize. I've discovered through trial and error that I can only do cardio in the morning. And only simple, non-complicated cardio at that (yes, this is how I sprained my ankle and almost broke my wrist an aerobics step....).
A local trainer, Kick it Up Boot Camp. If there was a 6pm session somewhere reachable from my office, it would be a completely different experience from my end. As it is, the struggle makes it more interesting, because otherwise, it's bunny cardio.

Isnt that similar to saying you have a penis so you must be led around by it?
