I've previously touched on things that immediately relegate a song to the auditory shitheap in my world - spelling, movement instructions, exhortations of the band's prowess (or using their name repeatedly*), et al. There are also large swathes of the musical landscape that I simply avoid because I don't like how they sound, or the general content of their lyrics (most country, hip-hop, and rap); I'm sure there are songs in those genres that would make me cringe in disgust and revulsion because they're just Very Not My Thing. That's not exactly going to come as a huge surprise (as opposed to my listing some things there that I do enjoy a great deal).

So, instead, I'm going to pick on some songs by bands or genres I enjoy greatly, but which suck right out loud, and not repeat any of the content from item #2.

First off, let's just nail Metallica to the wall for pretty much everything they've done from Load forward. There are a couple of decent tunes on it ("2x4," "Ain't My Bitch"), but they got mellow and twangy, and generally went places I don't enjoy being. I don't begrudge a band exploring new directions or trying new sounds; I'm just not going to give them my money or attention if they do stuff I don't want to listen to.

TMBG doesn't exactly cover themselves in glory with the crater in the middle of "Flood" - # "Twisting," "Someone Keeps Moving My Chair," "Hearing Aid," "Whistling in the Dark" & "Hot Cha"

But the king of the hill in terms of "What the fuck is this shit?" from a band I'm a huge fanboy of has been, is, and probably always will be Front Line Assembly's ill-concieved sojourn into hip-hop, "Victim of a Criminal." (If that link doesn't work quite right, consider it a blessing in disguise.) The sheer amount of WTFery that song engenders, in addition to just how fucking lame it is... the mind boggles.

* Exceptions: "Theme from Flood" by TMBG, "American Badass" by Kid Rock
