digitaldiscipline: (new back)
I'm not even sure what an Airbender is, or how one would notice if the air was bent without special skills or equipment. If, however, you pick up a straight bar from the middle, it will bend down at the ends. Unladen, this bend will not be detectable without the aforementioned skills and equipment.

Applying a substantial load, however, will make it apparent without the fancy shit. You just have to be able to do it.

495# for a double; this was supposed to be my top-end set, but it felt good enough that I wanted to keep going.

545# for a 40# PR the week of my 40th b-day

Given the elevated excitement of last week, with Magellan care and being shorthanded at the office, most of my workouts were hurried, harried, or otherwise gimped; being able to put in some solid work on Saturday was a moral imperative just so I didn't feel disappointed in my efforts for the week. I didn't get to do a ridiculous 40-rep set of anything on the day itself, so this was a meaningful, if belated, substitution.

Woot. must kick as much ass as i can, while i can, before going on the shelf. pretty sure i have a few pounds more in the tank for that.

I am on the hook to work the kilt blowing late night on friday; i don't yet know what hotel that's in. otherwise, my deployment this year is to ride herd on ballrooms in the hilton and sheraton (the heroes and villains ball is the biggie; not sure how that coincides with your costume itinerary)

Also, good bounce on that second lift!

The stretch reflex is a huge help; my coach's analysis was "you smoked that, but get your ass down"

225 is 2 plates per side (2@45 x2 + 45 for the bar).

495 is 5 plates per side, and 545 is 5 plates and a 25 pounder on each end.

:-)

i always keep thinking my bar is 95 lbs then i remember or look up it's 45. which is dumb ;>

all i have are 45 lb plates. old milled Olympic ones.

one of these days, maybe, i'll snag some colorful not rusty rubber baby bumbers, but i'm not in much hurry.

I don't have any bumper plates, because I don't crossfit or do dynamic olympic lifts - I always have to lower my weight under control, and, until my shoulder is fixed, snatches and jerks are off the table anyway. I have six pair of 45s, a pair of 35s, a pair of 25s, and a bunch of 10s & 5s, and one pair of 2.5s. i also have differently-cut (narrow hole, for "weider-style" handles) 5s, 10s, and 25s. all told, i have about a thousand pounds of plates, two conventional bars, one conventional bar that i bent (dropped it while benching, across the bench), my safety squat bar, my trap bar, and my new swiss bar (it has four sets of handles and looks like this (with a frame around the outside of the middle bit, not a bar through the middle)

i just have the full size older style oly bar. that by itself is pretty good for various stretches and such.

the sort of lifting i like to do is not very heavy, comparatively (2 45s, 1 bar), but very smooth lifting, and control, with good form and posture. makes my back happier on bad days. not bad for the knees.

some years ago, i developer a "trigger finger" node on a palm, it's never gone away, but it doesn't really cause any issues. rather annoying that the body breaks that way. so it goes :D
