Just had one of the most refreshing conversations ever with my boss (presumably because he's feeling contemplative regarding work situations, since I've put the bug in his ear about my raise, and he spent the morning filling out paperwork for his own retirement [he turns 62 next week]).

Him: Don thinks you're getting a bit of wanderlust.
Me: Well, yes. But don't worry, I have the perfect replacement ([livejournal.com profile] im_sorry_now. That said, I don't imagine I'll go anywhere until our lease is up. I should warn you, though, that my sister has an in for a near-dreamjob for me, so I can't help but send my resume to Seattle. And K isn't really thrilled with her job.
Him: Yeah, I kind of figured that.
Me: In all honesty, I don't really have a whole lot of, um, desire to get into the Coast Guard rules and regs...
Him: You don't have to, of course - that's what I do.

So, yeah, the boss knows I'm looking, and he's OK with it. I'm still looking forward to that raise and my bonus from these projects, got let out early this afternoon because my folks are in town, am going out for premium dead cow for dinner, and spent much of the morning giggling at my soon-to-be-finished "amusing" version of my resume.

I no longer have "objectives," I now have "completed levels."

Muahahahah.

That's cool your boss is okay with your looking for something else while you're still employed, some companies will give you the boot if they find out you're looking.

Giving up on Gothonia, or placating boss with the Seattle talk?

well, if the gig in seattle pans out - writing user guides for video games? dude, that's me all over - then, yes, i will be forsaking the sunshine and mopey goodness of gothonia for the pacific northwest.

those of you who remember c6 will recall my oft-repeated comments to the effect of "if i'd brought my computer, books, and music, i wouldn't have left." as it is also high on K's list of places to go, then, yeah. . .

You can be just as mopey in Seattle in the rain as you can in the sunshine state. :)

Gotta do what works for you and K.

Never you fear. You're not getting rid of US that easily. We're FLA bound no matter what.
