so, on the QT, mostly because even -i- wasn't that interested in the possibility, was the fact that i had an interview to take over managing the two LANs for my apartment complex offices. not the worst way to spend half an hour, but i was almost having fun being candid on the ob. tech. queries that the departing admin guy asked [and it was painfully obvious i was his first ever interview, he'd printed out a list of things to ask and checked them off].
"what's your opinion of OSI?"
"I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the acronym in this context."
[having since googled it to allay my curiosity, i'm going to assume he meant the Open Source Initiaive, and not the Open Society Institute or Ordnance Survey: Ireland. . . had he just asked what i thought of alternatives to windows, i could have given him a cogent answer. oh well.]
"what is the impact of the order of protocol bindings on network performance?"
"look, 99% of what i work with is tcp/ip - everything else was either broken or an afterthought. i'll go out on a limb and say that screwing this up isn't ideal."
I don't expect to get the job [2 or 3 hours a week, plus emergencies], and might even politely decline if it looks like the impending migration is more impending than on hold, assuming i get offered it. *shrug*
eh. other things have me feeling kind of stupid now. i want a nap.

it would have been a lot clearer if he'd just said "open source" instead of "osi"...and i bet for the network bindings question the just wanted you to say that the first one listed should be the one most frequently used, and so on...but blah.
there seems to be a rash of inexperienced people conducting interviews lately. :/

I hate to say it
I mean all he had to say was "well open source... how do you feel" and you could of gone ranting.
After having JUST COME from a govt job.. I HATE ACRONYMS! Yours dont stand for what mine do and NONE OF THEM FLIPPING MIX! Seriously it is such a huge problem with the goverment because THEY ALL USE acronyms... and none of them mix. Or they use the same ones over for different projects.
Just say what you mean...and mean what you say.
idiots.

That's what I would assume most people would ask about... but opinion? Hrm... I mean, uh, it's a mighty fine model, although a bit pointless to a knowledge set now-a-days... but it's not quite the same as "What's your opinion of the current global economic policy under the Bush administration?"
Exactly how does one have an opinion on the OSI model of protocol stacks?

he was less clever than that, but, really, i don't expext much from someone who looks all of 24 and is just ending their military service in the elocution or wit department.
