[inspired by the behavioral musings of

I'm in much the same mindset that
dancinglights &
ravenblack espouse:
1) I am essentially lazy, and do not want to bother creating a "to read daily" f-list; hence, people with an excessive number of posts daily, especially with a low S/N ratio, are either not friended, or quickly culled - I have had to explain this on a couple of occasions to the person in question. yes, i -know- i'm an asshole about this. this is also why i try to keep my fluff to a minimum.
2) The vast majority of my f-list is people I know well, primarily from online acquaintence, and a very substantial percentage of them I have met in person on multiple occasions. These are people who legitimately -are- friends in the "old fashioned" sense.
3) A very small handful of f-list denizens are people who are friends IRL, but who seldom, or never, post to LJ, and I want them to be able to read the small subset of my posts that are locked away from public consumption.
4) A small number of f-list people are LJ-met persons [
delicarose &
motel666, among others] who were persistently interesting to read or who have been "recommended reading" by someone whose opinion I value. I would also bundle the lj-feed comics I read [
with_gusto especially] in this category, though conversation is not really pursued.
5) Essentially, LJ has supplanted certain other forums where people I was friendly with would interact - IRC, e-lists, etc. I railed violently against it, but when it became a matter of "get on LJ or lose touch with these people I don't wish to lose touch with. . . . " well, here I am.
I have been [rightly] accused of being "stingy" with my friending behavior; I am more "read" than "reading" by most metrics, but am relatively light on provoking conversation by dint of the nature of my content; i do, however, comment all over the damn place, save for cascades of hugs & support in many instances.

back when i was filtering more often, I really wasn't THAT chatty to the broader public. but I've been posting publically since about November, and so it really opened up pretty wide there.
Ok, ok so I can't shut up. But I'm cute. :)
