After a hectic weekend that saw us playing host to some Orlando folken [confirming that a) our Aero Bed has a small leak, and b) we don't have enough crash space for housing guests for more than a night or two], it was darn nice to spend a quiet evening in front of the interactive blinky things with a beer and just chill.

Yesterday's lessons:
- For all my FPS-fu, I spend an awful lot of time getting my ass handed to me at FarCry.
- Romaine, Virginia Baked Ham, Prosciutto, and Pepper Jack make a damn fine dinner, wrapped in a burrito shell
- K is a quest-game addict. I know, I should have noticed this when she first installed Diablo II and I didn't see her for three weeks. . . but she's borrowing Gauntlet on the Xbox from MBI and kicking butt, mostly.

There's a new iron in the fire, but I ain't jinxing this one by yapping about it yet. Still no word from CO, which is annoying and rude [folks, at least return the call from last Thursday, even if only to say "We're still making a decision," don't leave us hanging without any word one way or the other].

Well...I've got plenty of room for you both to visit me in DC ;) Well...Arlington...but same damn difference...heh.

That wrap sounds interesting...what sauce did you use on it?

Good luck with the new iron in the fire ;) Sucks about CO...hopefully that will go well.

Sauce? You mean, like, sandwich-spooge?

No thanks. Blehhhh.

I think K put mayo on hers. It's a big deal if I put Italian dressing on a sub.

You like it dry...eh?

more to the point, i don't like it gooey and squishy and messy.

But...gooey squishy and messy is much more fun!

not when it gets all over your lap!

[yanno, this is just getting worse and worse. remind me, when we meet for dinner, to order pizza instead of a sandwich. heh.]

Awww! And here I was hopin' for a dressed shrimp po'boy ;) Or maybe a gyro ;) Something about meat surrounded by bread. Heheheh. Yeah this is getting pretty awful! And it's making me hungry...almost lunch time!!! :)

Gauntlet Legends! I lovelovelove that. It would almost be worth getting an Xbox if I could play it without going to an arcade.

*bwahahah*

i don't think it's worth $150 just to do -that-, but there are enough fun titles to make it one of the better gifts i've ever gotten *s*

Go K!

I have a few titles I can pack up in the mail that will keep her glued to the PC for weeks. I have just about exhausted them and I need to play games less anyway, so if I can find a good home for them I'll be happy.

Baldur's Gate - the whole damn series (2 primary games, plus one expansion disk for each.) This game is the best DnD sim I've ever seen. It rocks. It looks like Diablo in terms of perspective but is far FAR more flexable and involved than just "shoot shoot shoot! hack hack hack!"

Icewind Dale II - I might have the first one somewhere - not sure. IWD is very similar to BG, but is much more linear in the story line. You MUST go from A to B to C, whereas in BG, there is a scripted story line you must eventually go through, but there is a ton of other stuff to do in any order (or not at all.)

These games rock, and if K likes Diablo then she will likely love them. Let me know if you are interested. I'll cut ya a grrrrreat deal.

actually, i think i may still have my copy of BG around here somewhere, and just had the Myth box set show up, courtesy of MBI.

then again, Gauntlet is just "shoot shoot shoot, hack hack hack." heh.

I downloaded the FarCry demo and pretty much repeatedly got my ass handed to me.
I'm not used to the "one good shot, one kill" approach that game has. Its handy when you can head-shot the baddie, ending their existence with one bullet, but they seem to do that more to me than the other way.
I'm holding out buying for Half-life 2.
Thats when I get the implants to connect my brain directly to my computer.

And if you have a PS2, I can recommend the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games. They are like Diablo II in AD&D.

I'm a big fan of the "realistic damage to kill" model, because, well, i'm an asshole sniper anyways, and i like the fact that you're not an invulnerable tank who can just scamper around and collect ammo, armor, and medkits everywhere, so that you -do- need some finesse or you get your ass handed to you.

multiplayer, sure, bring on the medkits and random weapon dumps [do yourself a favor if you get the game, and score some of the third-party maps, especially Krazy_Karnage].

the single player is, imo, a nice balance between the requirement for stealth of, say, Theif, and the "i will keel you until you are dead!" of Quake.

I have the gamecube and had rented that game - oh I so want to buy it (drool) There's another fun one - destroy all monsters - with Godzilla and all the various godzilla monsters.

Jack went awol for the weekend but should be around again soon. in the meantime, I am scouting other possibilities for tech jobs here for you as well. It's too bad I have no contacts for zoos. Botanical gardens, yes, zoos no.
