All week, I've been dreaming of, essentially, a cross between the CGI battle scenes from Starship Troopers and the faked "Camel Spiders two feet across" pictures that purportedly came from troops in the Middle east - I've been wandering hither, thither, and yon, and eight-legged beasties, hundreds of them, the size of, oh, the base of a wheeled office chair, have needed squishing, popping, or other general "no, thanks, please stop invading where I am" measures taken against them. They're not hostile, and as far as I can tell, not deadly-poisonous, but, really, several hundred spiders that are bigger than my cats is just excessive. The tail end this morning included the first-ever somnabulist cameo by both our cats, who were helpfully meowing at the one or two archacnids I'd missed.

From http://www.sleeps.com/dictionary/sss.html - Spiders: All spiders except tarantulas are omens of good luck. If you see a spider climbing the wall you will have your dearest wish come true and if you see a spider spinning a web you will have an increase in your income due to hard work. A large spider sitting on a telephone shows you will have a phone call that will benefit you greatly. The larger the spider, the bigger the rewards.

vs

http://www.newagedirectory.com/dream/dictionary.htm - Spider: Little annoying or irritating things that are left undone. Can be a fear of gossipy things said about you - or the consequences of gossip you engaged in regarding someone else.

vs

http://www.swoon.com/run/DreamDiary/Dream?dreamID=5115 - Insects: An obstacle dream. If you succeeded in killing them or otherwise getting rid of them, or if they didn't annoy you, it signifies that your difficulties will be easier to overcome than you anticipate.

Also, the multicolored goldfish crackers -taste- fine, but, yanno, the purple and green ones look weird.

Dream diaries are generally useless, because while there are some recurring themes common to humans (large bodies of water often relating to visceral or sexual aspects, roads or paths indicating our sense of purpose or direction, etc.), you have to interpret your symbols by what they mean to you. A lot of "Spell books" are like this too... people by a book at some psychic bookshop and read a "spell" with some nonsense words and candle-placements. *Useless* even if it worked for the book's author.

Not knowing you from Adam, really, my interpretation of your dream is not likely to be that revealing. But in general, being surrounded by many distasteful, skittering things... things you crush (because they presumably bother you) but which are not hostile... suggests at a basic level that you may feel harassed by many tiny problems and details that you have to take care of. It sounds like a basic, low-level, life-is-a-hassle-and-I'm-overwhelmed-by-details-and-need-to-recenter anxiety dream.

The helpful inclusion of your cats suggests you view them subconsciously as de-stressors. But for all I know, you kick your cats. (tho' truth-be-told, I don't imagine that's the case)

Like I said... I don't know what these symbols might mean to you at a deeper level, but there's my dimestore psychoanalysis for you. :)
