I might well be signing a very expensive piece of paper on Saturday, thanks to angel_renewed. Boy, I'm nervous about this.

My trainee is dumber than a bag of hammers, but means well. I had to put together a crib sheet of common windows shortcuts. You know, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-P. . . *facepalm*

Nothing sucks more than a Win98 installation CD with one corrupt file. . . when that file is the Internet Connection Setup Wizard [not because I need help setting up a connection, but because you can't step around this fucking thing the first time you go online after completing the installation].

Hence, between training him and the Win98 fiasco, I was offline all day at the office. I'm not ignoring all'a y'all, I'm just AFK, and feeling really out of touch as a result. Friday can't get here soon enough, so i can blow this popsicle stand.

Had a very pleasant burger-and-beer dinner with david_deacon. There are two young women (possibly) reading this that he extends very heartfelt apologies to.

I'd have more to add, but I'm fried at this point. But it's possible that four weeks from this friday, i could have equity.

You can get around having to use this: After you finish loading windows, manually configure the Internet Properties settings.
Better yet, don't use IE. :P

I'd thought that, too. . . but when you hit the "Connect" button. . . it tries to poll the ICW and dies horribly. [98 shipped with IE4 *twitch*]

and, unfortunately. . . how am i going to install another browser when i can't download it, or run the darn necessary windows updates without IE? *sigh* is fixed now, but, goddamn, that was annoying.

Well, I've not messed with 98 in a while, but I could have sworn that there was some way to turn wizzards off.
*shrug*

I would say "Who cares, it's an old obsolete OS anyway" but after I finish my upgrade, I'll be using the leftovers to make a 98 box for playing old DOS games (I miss Shadow Warrior)

we're gonna try to get the roof work (if need be) and the closing costs, and maybe talk him down a little on the price, depending how eager & flexible the seller is willing to be.

we're looking at grabbing a nap after work here on friday, then getting on the road around 3am, which should put us in your neck of the woods around lunchtime - i'll know when our appointment with the home inspector is when i talk to GB this afternoon [also need to review the mortgage quotes and whatnot, as well as figure out our down payment options to avoid FHA, which includes my reluctant but appreciative acceptance of my parents' generosity].
