[it's been shared around a lot lately, but Madelyn's post looked nicest].

My machine's watercooling gave up the ghost, and I think there may be some residual fucked-up-ness with my CPU not being able to reach its previous speed. [Dear Santa, I want a Mobile Athlon 2500+ for my Birthday.] But I'm back online after a long, frustrating evening.

K's machine is another story - Gru, what kind of PSU are you using with your Dragon? I've got an Antec 350 and that fucker still won't boot (no error beeps at boot, but "Video Signal Missing" - I don't even see a BIOS flash screen). So I went back to putting my old Epox 8RDA+ in her machine. . . . and it doesn't output a video signal, either. FSCK. I am presently wondering if the Antec is wonky, but have been verboten from fucking with her rig until I get everything else done.

Checklist:
- Laundry [at least my shite]
- Disassemble stereo equipment [to be done while laundry is in process]
- Call GB just in case the house won't be ready for us on 7/24 to look for temporary stuff and us accomodations [4 cats in Haus Westphal might be just a little too, uh, interesting].
- Pull out CDs I sold [if anyone wants the list of disks I'm looking to part with, comment here or email me] to take to dinner.
- Pack or put away all the damn computer parts that are strewn everywhere

Already done:
- Directions to Haus Westphal (a/k/a Gothopia Moonbase I] printed
- Rental truck reservation made
- Mushy phone call with [livejournal.com profile] aishlynn
- Wally World/Dollar General to buy Clotheshangers
- Hit post office to drop stuff for MBI and [livejournal.com profile] mpeace off

Got an Enermax 350 ("whisper" dual-fan) running it all, and it runs like a charm, I must say.

I just swapped the stock CPU fan (copper base, quiet, not bad really) for an OCZ Gladiator3. Only runs about 1-3 degrees cooler, but the LEDs are cool. Plus the stock went to the other machine to replace it's loud-assed alluminum cooler.

Oh, if you're adding a SATA drive on the Dragon, remember at OS install to add 3rd party SCSI drivers...and most importantly, use the VIA RAID driver, not the Silicon Image one.

no SATA in my future for a long while, so that's not crucial.

i'm wondering if something may be grounded improperly, but that's been relegated to the bottom of the pile. worse comes to worst, i'll stick the 1ghz p3 back in there and she can limp along on 64mb of system memory - it's enough to surf, chat, and do email, but gaming is teh suck.

SATA...when shopping for stuff, it was only a mesely $11 difference from IDE drive of same make/size. And since I had plenty of money from Army Bonus, I was of the mindset of "Screw it...this is blood money I *EARNED* so I'm gonna splurge!"

Grounding...yes, that can do wierd things....putting new mobo in not long ago it wouldn't start up at all. I mean, the PSU wouldn't even come on. Realized had a screw mount under the mobo from old one that wasn't lined up to a hole...removed it and bingo: ran like a charm.

....so, driving by St. Louis by any chance?

no, no driving that far north in the forseeable future.

interesting aside: while hauling down the box for my main HT speakers, what should land on my head but a Gainward GF3 Ti200 box! currently housing phone, ethernet, and other miscellaneous cables [and labelled as such on the duct tape holding it closed].

Yet more proof that while Gainward kicked ass at the time, some wierd curse happened with the release of DX9, and now they are pure evil.

Uh. Yeah. It would have to be really short term. Luckily, the house is such that we could wall off YOUR cats from OUR cats fairly easily. Still, you'd be living in a converted back porch regardless.

It's super easy to get here from I-275. We drove by your house the other night. It was quiet at 9:30pm. Well, there *was* a drunk guy stumbling down Nebraska, but that's to be expected.

GB is my next phone call, laundry is currently in the washer. then, it's "attack the home theater setup."

An old saying: If you're on a street named after a state or a past president, you're too far downtown.

Or if you're on a street named after Dr. MLK. For some reason, that name is always given to streets in the hood.

I'm on Elizabeth Street.
*whew*
Rafe's house will be on Hamilton.
uh-oh

. .. which is named after a city in Ontario, dammit. *snicker*

Edwin Hamilton? Eugene Hamilton? "E. Hamilton" is pretty vague. ;-)

Cross those fingers - K just got The Call from BG.

HELL YEAH!

Tentacles crossed!

Hope you guys will be here on Sunday. Coz we just got screwed by the moving people. Again.

we will be. not meeting with GB until monday morning, so we'll be kicking around your place and ready to rock.

That's true.
In fact, the main road right up from my house is called St. Charles Rock Road. Follow it east towards the city....it changes to MLK. That's the universal signal of "If you're white and it's after 10, do not continue on"
