[with apologies to the Eurythmics]
Last night, after a long, full week at the office, K insisted on treating me to dinner. Since I'd had pretty good sushi for lunch, and was craving veggies [weird, I know], we went to Sweet Tomatoes (I think? Some kind of salad buffet place), followed by synchronized Home Depot-ing with
theonebob - we went to one HD, and were just parking when he called us to say he was on the way to the other ("ghetto/parallel universe") HD.
The gift certs I got for my birthday were killed quickly and well, and then some, but we take delivery of a pretty nice Maytag dryer (I opted for putting the extra hundred bucks towards the "sens-o-dry" widget to cut down on utility bills and needing to iron down the road) Monday afternoon.
On our way home,
axissilverhand got a hold of us, saying that some fun folks would be descending on Ybor city, and would we want to go? "Fuck yes," was the rapid consensus, so after getting dolled up, we headed downtown for a thoroughly enjoyable evening of wandering from club (the Castle) to club (Czar) and back again before finally running into one another. I also got to introduce K to Karen (whom
netgoth and
critus introduced me to, the hostess of the tabletop RPG session I joined them for), which is always fun. . . call me shallow, but I like having a cute girl on each arm. *grin*
And, speaking of cute girls on each arm, Axis brought his own pair (S & C), who proceeded to do the expected thing: admire and fondle
aishlynn's butt. Mmmm, group grope. *grin*
Upon fatigue landing on us like a padded piano, we decided to head home, only to discover that downtown Tampa had become easier to travese by ark than car - 9th avenue literally overtopped the curbs and had begun to bubble up out of the drains on the walkway, and 8th ave was under 18" of water. Impressed but undaunted, we made our way to the parking garage and attempted to navigate home.
Let me just interject here to say that, yes, I've lived in New York City, so I may be somewhat biased on what I expect the behavior exhibited by cab drivers to be, but Tampa cabbies are the biggest pussies on the road (and this is after New Orleans, where I drive faster than the ambulances, and the livery service takes "sedate" to entirely new levels). You don't stop when the water reaches your hubcaps, kids - you keep moving, especially when there are several cars behind you. Not so Tampa cabs, so there were no fewer than three of them variously stalled out, idling, or otherwise obstructing the already challenging roads at three AM. Thanks, asshats.
Today included a particularly frisky bunny running amok in the house, the completion of our living room painting, procurement of a standalone kitchen pantry, and the beginnings of organization around the house [as well as an actual easy-to-use gallery of pics, courtesy of
hellsop at http://www.ninehells.com/gallery ]. So, yes, anyone who wants house pr0n, head on over. They're more or less in "before/during/after order," but those that aren't are at least named with the photo date.
So now we're chlling at home, after dinner & 'ritas with the other Moon Base Alpha Jedi constituents before making a trek to the local German beer purveyor for some Lambic . . . in the mall. D00d. 140+ kinds of imported beer, in a mall store, on my commute. . . and the 'rita place (also in the mall) has quarter drafts from 4-8 every day. I think we know where you'll be finding
angelsil and I after bad days at the office.
After one too many dropped sessions on 802.11g, I got sick of the wireless way of life and slapped some Cat5 from the router to the back of both machines in the house. 2.4GHz may be nice, and 56mbps is plenty quick, but when I can't get a signal three feet from the damn router, through a single thickness of wall, that's just not gonna cut it, especially once I move one of the machines (I'm leaning towards mine) into the office/library/guest bedroom, and there'll be twenty feet and another wall in the way.
Yo, Axis - how much do you want for that queen sized futon? A convertible sitting/snoozing installation makes the most sense for in there. Also, lawnmower! (Not afraid of borrowing
theonebob's weedwhacker! Unless it rains, in which case I am AFRAID of electrocution).

the next trick, now that i've done my first honest-to-goth home repair (replacing a fux0red spigot for the washing machine hookup) is to get the second room (office/dining room) ready for painting & trim, and to hopefully get the incorrect table fiasco put to rest (we got three coffee tables, instead of 2 end tables and one coffee table... as you can see, a 4x4 table eats up a big chunk of our living room floor).
still not king.
