That's the figure NPR this morning said was the voter turnout for 18-24 year olds.

Was "Vote or Die" too fucking ambiguous?

The 16% figure for 18-29 is just pathetic. I know that my flist is not a representative cross-section, and that nearly all of you did your civic duty.

I'm nauseated that, despite record numbers of voters turning out in many states, the people who will live with (and suffer most from) the results of this election stayed away in droves. The fact that the election is even this close, and that GWB has the popular majority despite obvious and grotesque flaws. . . who the fuck are these people I share a country with?

I looked over my choices, and came to the same unpleasantly surprising realization that [livejournal.com profile] thewronghands did: I hold a minority opinion on just about every issue.

- John Kerry: Lost in Florida
- Parental notification of abortion: Passed in a landslide
- Slot machines OK in Miami: still too close to call

It's difficult to put into words just how disappointed I am. This isn't a well-mannered dog chewing up your favorite slippers or pissing on the couch. This is your best friend handing your mother an anthrax tablet and saying it's a multivitamin.

I feel sick when I think about being an American today. I tried. I voted. My conscience is clear, but I still want to reach for the ammo box.

that pretty nicely sums up how I feel at the moment. I voted the same way.

Well, you know how I feel about the whole sordid affair. I honestly did my best. Nobody cared.

[hugs]

So what do we do now?

We make truth-tellers out of NPR, who said yesterday that in 2008, an internet-based third party will make a serious showing.

That should be [livejournal.com profile] wildturkeyparty if it's going to be anyone if I have anything to say about it.

Fuck.

"PACK YOUR BAGS, YOU LITTLE ASSHOLE--AT LEAST YOU CAN'T RUN FOR A THIRD TERM!!!"

I don't know, though. Wait three-and-a-half years and monkey-boy and his gang of fascist goons will probably find a way to suspend elections indefinitely, citing "national security" or something.

Frankly, I'm slightly surprised they didn't try to find a way to do it this time around.

They aren't going to act any more like Hitler than they absolutely have to. They'll wait three-and-a-half years. You watch.

Bah. I'm one of those 10%. I'm quite pissed at the other 90. When I migrate to Canada and secede from the USA, I'm not inviting them!
