Need a quick pointer for my fiction: For TV news, who makes the decision for what makes the broadcast as far as content: News Director? Producer? Someone else?

Context is a member of the on-air crew wants to have a (relatively minor) new feature on the show. Who would they ask (or petition) to make it happen?

Ultimately the News Director's decision. But the on-air talent would probably bring it up to everybody at a news meeting, and then get permission from the EP (Exec. Producer). They'd probably get a segment producer to handle all the details of it. They'd also likely run it by the Promotions department, to see about promoting it. But if it's a regular recurring thing, the News Director would make the call.

I'm curious to read this fiction, particular as it involves broadcasting.

btw, four L's.

thanks!

i realized i'd shorted you an L after I hit submit. d'oh!

I will be happy to share it, assuming that the submission guidelines allow same. . . if nothing else, sending a word .doc to a friend should be kosher, whereas posting it here [and not under a friends-only tag] probably wouldn't be.
