That noise you can't quite hear is a tiny chorus of angels singing hosannas above my desk. - from an email to my boss, regarding the waiver of group review for the training module I'm assembling this week

The new dress code policy went into effect yesterday. This means dick to me, other than that I need to remember to shave every couple of days, but it has got me re-pondering the notion of wearing the black Utilikilt on casual Fridays (solid color, well below the 3" above the knee requirement). . . I will bring shorts, because I suspect any objections will hinge upon the "Employees are not to dress in a manner that is offensive, distracting or disruptive to other employees, customers, or visitors. . . . Any unusual personal appearance or attire not previously addressed will be ruled upon by the appropriate Department Head or HR Manager."

Look for the clause, "When in doubt, leave it out" or "Trendy - or High Fashion clothing that communicate a whimsical or pretentious attitude" in the policy. (Yes these phrases are in my company's policy.) They'll get you with that every time.

Holy crap! I've never heard of dress code worded in such a manner. It covers leg warmers (Trendy) and Gucci bags (pretentious) in one shot. They can't even enforce the no jeans except Fridays and the no sleeveless shirts at my workplace. Of course most of my work is done from home, so PJs or a robe are acceptable.

Etcet: A kilt might be considered "distracting", if you don't mind testing the rule, then go for it. I'd bring some pants just in case.

Yeah, I'm planning on bringing shorts JIC.

I'm figuring that around 8:15 I'll hear the phrase that pays:

"Rafe, for the love of God, put some pants on!"

Try the discrimination/cultural bit. I know someone else who pulled it off. My company just decided that the employees must purchase entirely new wardrobes - they are only allowing us to wear black or tan suits with white or off-white shirts (collared or turtleneck only). No dresses, no black shirts, no body tattoos visible, some weird comment about only wearing earrings in ears, etc.

so much for the wardrobe I spent the past 6 years building. I feel your pain, and I, too am going to be pushing buttons.

Sure. I realize that I look like I'm from the middle east, but I'm Scottish. No, really. Can't you see my tartan? Yes, I know that it's black. We weren't very popular.

That'd be the part about "Any unusual personal appearance or attire" sentence. The army loves those. Like their haircut rules, where they just give length restriction, but nothing about style or appearance other than no "fad hairstyle" How's that for ambiguous?

Still....Rafe, you rawk my world. You've no idea how much I'd love to be able to wear a utilikilt to work.

Haha. Go you (but keep your job). [grin] I too tend to push the dress code envelope.

Yet another reason why I love my company.

Awhile ago...

:Hey.. Talia.. I can see...you have a hole in the back of your jeans...

me: Really.. where...
Them: Yeah by the pocket... uhm... it's fairly large, and showing skin..

me: oh yeah.. wearing a thong today... oh well *shrug*
