Deductions for Dummies

Did K's on Sat. Uncle Sam is giving back.

Still waiting on my goddamned W-2 from NOLA. Going to re-nag them if it isn't in today's mail, because that's all I'm waiting on, and it's getting annoying that it's this late (and I know full well that I'll be getting a chunk back off of it, too).

naturally, it was in my mailbox today.

with my new orleans address on it.

after I emailed them a month ago expressly so they'd have my new address.

less back than i was expecting on top of what i'd been forecast on just my FL W-2, but it's better than owing.

You can only deduct hobby expenses if your hobby makes you money, and then only to the break-even point for that particular hobby (i.e. you can't deduct hobby expenses from your main job income). http://www.kelanroycpa.com/krcpa/hobby_loss.htm

Sorry to disappoint--I though it sounded too good to be true!

not a problem - building computers is my hobby, and i lose money on that sucker every year (buy $1k in parts, make $200 doing tech support).
