The weekend got off to an interesting start - Florida Blood Services called me because I may be a match for an 8 year old boy in need of bone marrow, and, pending additional testing, I may donate marrow or stem cells. That's kind of cool. I wonder if you get to meet the recipient and/or their family?

As [livejournal.com profile] mpeace, [livejournal.com profile] tylorael, and [livejournal.com profile] stompymink can attest, the closet door in my office/our guest bedroom was in rough shape. No longer! Yesterday saw me replace it, and in the process of doing that and smoothing the operation of the dead bolt on the front door, I got to use every power tool in my arsenal except the angle grinder (drill, circular saw, dremel). Need to paint or stain it, but at least there aren't louvers coming off at random intervals. Also, to stem the hemmoraging thermodynamics of my abode, I ordered two dozen sheets of 2" styrofoam insulation to slice into 16" witdths and wedge between the joists under my floor - next weekend, I'm going to be a tyvek-wearing, under-house-scooting fool.

Aside to [livejournal.com profile] tylorael - email me your new apartment addy; we've got a housewarming trinket for you.

Ate way too much Indian food with GMBAS and the impending Gothopia Orlando Outpost crew on Friday, and then ate way too much Mexican last night for [livejournal.com profile] theonebob's belated birthday shindig.

Inadvertently got busted on Friday, so K got her trinket (a silver ring with a moon/sun motif) sooner, rather than later. D'oh. At least she really likes it. *facepalm*

Very noble of you if you do decide to donate marrow. Although I gotta tell you, it's one of the most painful procedures around. But – saving a life = priceless.

I've never done the anesthesia thing (just local for dental work), so if they go the "core sample from your pelvis" route, that'll be a new and interesting experience. If it's the chemical-induced production and filtration thing, that seems less painful. I'll know more in a few days, once they run the advanced tests on my blood sample to see if I'm an exact-enough match (they had to get my OK to do so, which is why I got a voice mail at home, my parents got a confusing phone call, and I had a questionnaire to fill out in Friday's mail).

Righto. By "fit in a mailbox," how big are we talking? Shoebox sized? Travel-mug sized? I've got something here that should be able to collapse into something about 2x1x12 inches or thereabouts.

Awesome on the bone marrow thing. I'll confess that I hate anethesia more than anything in the universe, but it seems to be worthy. I'm registered as a donor but I've never been called.

fit in a mailbox = one of those mailboxes that are long and not very deep that hang on the side of your house. I imagine that would fit.

Like everyone else, the pain will be a bitch but being called as the donor is a rawkin' thing.
It's better than be called for jury duty certainly. :)
My felicitations to K; I hope that VD is fun and happy for the both of you.
