Thanks/Damnation to
cavalorn for calling this bit of loveliness to my attention.
For any other FL residents, go here to look up your state legislators, and let them know your thoughts.
[the following was sent to both my state senator and state representative]
Dear __________:
It is with a deep sense of obligation and concern that I write to you regarding what I feel to be an egregious misuse of legislation, The Academic Freedom Bill of Rights, sponsored by Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala. This bill opens the door for a litany of frivolous lawsuits brought by either wilfully ignorant, or politically motivated, students and parents, and will do grievous harm to the academic environment, both financially as as a forum to educate our youth.
I would ask that you and your fellow Democrats work passionately to strike down this grotesque display of anti-intellectualism. Saying the sky is green doesn't make it so, and going to court to make your case won't change the refractive properties of the atmosphere. . . unless, of course, generating all that hot air counts.
The truth can and should withstand the most vigorous of scrutiny; however, merely because an uninformed or close-minded person denies that the truth is, in fact, correct, it should not be put on trial. Ignorance should not be coddled in the fashion espoused by this bill, it should be dispelled by the very educational process that this legislation would give incessant opportunity to challenge.
Thank you very much for your time and attention to this matter.

which is why there needs to be some means of immediate comeuppance if they fuck us out of our freedoms. i'm not talking "not being re-elected," i'm thinking more like "high-wattage tazer to the spleen" and going up from there.
