01. Total volume of music files on my computer:

At the office? The handful of MP3's that are available for download from The Azoic/Nilaiha's label, plus 128MB on my pocket MP3 player (generic angsty workout mix, which reminds me that I should put my headphones on and rock the catbox). On the home box? Probably about 2GB. Something just over 8 day's worth, anyway.

02. The last CD I bought was:

Metropolis' 2004 sampler. I don't buy much music anymore, because a) I haven't heard anything new except A23, Informatik, and Evanescence that I'd bother paying for, b) I'm too cheap/broke to blow money on CDs, c) I refuse to support the industry fat cats who are fucking up music by assraping fans. I may actually hold strong opinions on the subject not expressed here.

03. The last song I listened to before writing this was:

Now Playing: Cydonia, "Freakshow" - For those of you on GC2, this was the last song in my set, the one I danced to all by myself. Go buy "Fear of a Red Planet." Now.

05. Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:
(In no particular order)

Mussorgsky - The Great Gate at Kiev (from Pictures at an Exhibition). When people say they don't like classical music, I tend to find that they're not very interesting, and that they also haven't tried listening to good classical music.

Paul Simon - Call Me Al. This is "our song." First person who makes a smart remark gets taught that the "Al" I'm being called is "Bundy."

Front Line Assembly - Mortal. I can (and have) listened to this for days on end. Dark, atmospheric, great for working, driving, or sleeping.

Sisters of Mercy - Under the Gun. Arguably one of the most inflential songs I've ever heard.

Metallica - Fade to Black. Anyone who isn't moved by the guitar solo needs to be checked for a pulse.

Honorable mention: Command and Conquer - Hell March. Best video game music, ever.

06. Five albums I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:
(In no particular order)

NIN - Pretty Hate Machine and Sisters of Mercy - Slight Case of Overbombing. See SoM note above.

Metallica - Master of Puppets. This is the only album I own that doesn't have one song that sucks on it.

Front Line Assembly - Tactical Neural Implant.

If there was a "Best of John Williams" CD out there, maybe that.

07. Which 5 people are you passing this baton to, and why?

Whoever wants to bother, really.

Sisters of Mercy - Under the Gun.

Really?
As a huge SoM fan and former Terri Nunn wannabe (I had the white with black-tipped hair and EVERYTHING), one would assume I'd like the song. I remember buying it the day it came out - on CD single - and being horribly, horribly underwhelmed.

Temple of Love? Now there's a song I can get behind.

*shrug*

I dislike 'Under the Gun' less these days, but I still think it was a result of Andy and Terri boffing each other more than any actual talented collaboration.

It would make a nice first dance song at a wedding, at least in my mind.

Metallica - Master of Puppets. This is the only album I own that doesn't have one song that sucks on it.

so, what's the song that sucks on Ride the Lightning? "Escape" is the weakest track on that album, IMHO, and it still kicks ass. While "Damage, Inc." on Master is fairly forgettable.

Damage Inc. is in no way forgetable. It's the spiked and unlubricated anal battering ram of an exclamation point on that disc. The first couple of songs on "side 2" (I still think of MoP as the tape I bought in high school) as forgetable, as proven by the fact that I can't recall the titles...... :-)

Seriously though, I love that whole album but the ending (Orion and DI) is one of it's strongest points.

You did _not_ just dis Leper Messiah.

. . . and "Disposable Heroes."

[stupid enter key]

Honestly, "Damage, Inc." is the weakest track on the album, but it's still great.

Now, you want a CD that is great-great-great-ohmygodwhatthefuckwasthatshit-great-great-great, FLA's "Millenium" fills the bill. WTF is up with the rapping rendition of "victim of a criminal" in the middle of that?

"Escape" is hideously bad.

RtL is revered in my collection for "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "Fade to Black," and "Call of Ktulu" (and to a lesser extent, "Trapped Under Ice"). "Battery" used to do it for me, but not so much anymore. "Creeping Death" borders on phenomenal, but is merely great.

....my respect for you rises daily.

Didja catch Metallica weekend on VH1 last weekend? Kewl Stuph.

I need a better recording of Pictures at an Exhibition. One thing I hate about classical music is that there are so many recordings of everything that you'll never know if it's a good one or not until you buy it. The one I have is done by a tiny orchestra from the suburbs of Riga or something. Wimpy wimpy wimpy! I need a recording with some cajones!

*throws the metal sign*

I missed that. Did they show the documentary that I've seen like five times and can't remember the name of because I'm retarded right now? Brilliant movie. *goes to rack brain now...*

Some Kind of Monster was the one released in theaters a little while ago. They played that without commercials on Sunday. The other one was a VH1 produced series called "when (x) ruled the world."

It was my first time seeing it. I don't think I have ever read so much from non-verbal communication that from what those guys were NOT saying. I'll sum it up:

Jaymz says "Larz is such a jackass."
Larz says "Jaymz is such a pussy."
Napster says "Larz is such a jackass."
Jason says "screw you guys, I'm going home!"
Krk says (in tears) "stop it, just stop it!"
The therapist says "I am making a mint off you jerks."
Dave Mustaine says "I'm still fixated on the fucking you guys gave me 20 years ago."

That's the one. I love that Dave is still kicking himself in the ass and being a giant wuss after all these years.

he wasn't a wuss, he was a jedi-class alkie. ;-)

not that the rest of them weren't, but he went above and beyond...

Goddman LJ ate my post.

Dave Mustaine is not only Jedi, but he kicked that weenie from Sugar Ray's ASS on Rock and Roll Jeopardy. He cleaned the floor with ALL comers.

All hail Dave Mustaine!

I like the version that's on Classical Thunder, myself.

Ever heard "The Planets" by Holst and, if so, what did you think of it?
Date/Time: 2005-04-13 00:07 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] etcet.livejournal.com
yes, but it doesn't do much for me. even though "mars, bringer of war" is the underlying riff to at least one metallica tune. ;-)

Means a lot? What about the Overture of 1812 or Bach's Tocatta?
