Three and a half hours of busting our butts,
theonebob, Albrizzle, and I, have excavated about seven feet of sewer line, and have, I believe, uncovered the point or two at which the roots of annoyance gained ingress to the pipe.
Also: OLD Terracotta!
Time to call the Roto-Dude to have them come out and replace about a foot of the line.
Yeah, that was definitely worth saving a thousand bucks. Booyah!

Since they're about eight inches apart, odds are good that he'll replace the section in between as well just so you only have one new piece of pipe instead of two. It may even be cheaper to do that, because it'd be easier to make two cuts, and two joints, than four, and PVC is not a wildly expensive material, even at schedule 40 and 80. :>
Actually, you may even be able to provide the materials to get them at a cheaper cost by going to a Ferguson's Plumbing Supply or similar store if your plumber can tell you what you need exactly. Because then you're just paying for labor.

i'll be talking with them on monday. hopefully, i can get them out early thursday morning (while i'll be home, prior to flying out to c11), which would be the best option, i think.

A lot of our customers opt not to be home during work, and I think that's a bit nuts. You totally want to be there, because what if something were to go wrong? Or if he found extra repairs were required? I don't grok the blind trust some people place in tradesmen! :> Much better to be there, so you can see exactly what's been done, what you're paying for and all that good stuff.
