As mentioned eloquently elswhere on here today, last night's VNV show was a darn good time.  I didn't have the transcendant musical experience some other folks did, but I enjoyed the occasion.  First and foremost, a big THANY YOU to [livejournal.com profile] donwaughesq for playing enabler.

I enjoyed standing (and bouncing) around with the friends in attendance more than anything else; I've missed that flavor of socializing for a while, and, despite needing to shout to be heard, even from an inch away, it was just what the doctor ordered.  Pre-show dinner at TBBC was, as ever, quite enjoyable - Lurch (name still not known) gives superlative service and the right flavor of snark to set off any meal.  Giving him shit, and then asking for extra lemons resulted in getting a plate full of uncut citrus fruit.  Well played, Thing.

[livejournal.com profile] netgoth was again able to render me nigh unto speechless with an honest observation, though I didn't accept her compliment with anything resembling grace. *sheepish smile*

[livejournal.com profile] aishlynn and I have subsequently enjoyed a day absolutely chock-full of Slack, with a brief interlude to provide first-aid supplies to someone doing repair work across the street.  Let it not be said that our neighbors ever ask for anything normal. . . we have midnight fire alarms, random queries for three dollars (and the subsequent return of same), and requests for rubbing alcohol to clean wounds. *shakes head and laughs*

No slack here. We went shopping and have been working in the yard. Oh the excitement!

Random question: what time did VNV start playing? We're seeing them next week, so I want to make sure I didn't make dinner reservations too late. We saw them at the same venue when they played New Years, so I know the drinks there are overpriced and awful. so I don't want to get there early, but I don't want to miss any of the show.

And really, clubs that are going to overcharge for drinks should at least serve good drinks. The giant cup (for the appearance of value I suppose) that was 99% sour mix with 2 drops of liquor was obnoxious. I'd rather have had a smaller but normal-tasting drink. Sour mix is not a tasty beverage all on its own.

Uhhh. . . *thinks*

We finished dinner about 9 (doors were at 8), and caught the last couple of songs from the first act. Ten minutes or so later, Imperative Reaction came on and did their set (35-45 min?), followed by another fifteen minute interlude before VNV hit the stage.

So, I'd estimate they went on about 1015 or 1030. As noted elsewhere, the opening acts are not going to make you regret arriving early, and IR was quite enjoyable (I'd only heard (and enjoyed) the track they've got on Metropolis' 2004 sampler previously).
