Apparently, there's a hole blown in the Superdome's roof, and they've moved people away from that portion of the building. As noted, the strongest part of the storm hasn't hit town yet. Egads.

I have no idea about the storm surge, but the live cam feeds from nola.com apparently all dropped when the power went out around 6:20 local time this morning. Some are offline, some are showing the last image captured.

I am very glad most of the folks we know got out, and I'm pretty concerned for the ones who didn't.

Yeah. Apparently, according to Mayor Nagin (from cnn) a small section of the levee was overtopped or collapsed around Ninth Ward (north of downtown, downstream on the river). That's the poorest, most crime-ridden part of town, and most of the houses there are dilapidated shotgun duplexes. I'd be surprised if there's anything much left that way.

Invisible is Jeeves' friend in NYC - he's fine, just funny-looking.

Jeeves and I swapped text messages Sunday - he and his GF went to Houston to stay with her mother, so he's presumably fine (his part of town was not, as far as i can tell, one of those subject to the flooding)
