[livejournal.com profile] interdictor has been posting live updates from the data senter he does crisis management for in a high-rise in downtown New Orleans.

This is not a shiny, happy, media-friendly account. It's probably a lot closer to the truth, and it is ugly and scary to hear what an eyewitness to the events is seeing.

The weather isn't the problem. The water isn't the problem. Looting, by residents and police, is the problem. Well-armed thugs (if you want to be mediapathic about it, "domestic terrorists") of every stripe have turned what was an occasionally-sketchy city into a fucking militarized zone.

He has seen the enemy, and it is people.

It's enough to make me hope some of the more lethal animals got out of the zoo, and are enjoying a snack of asshole gumbo.

Another good bit of stuff here.

Now I kinda wish the sharks had gotten out of the aquarium. We'd just have to keep Kim away from the news.

Actually you paraphrased this in your post and I missed it.
I also didn't check to make sure the actual quote came first from Pogo.
This shows me that I need to drink more coffee in the morning when I first come in.
