Bush Admits Responsibility.
I'll let that sink in for a minute. Not that it's won me over, by a long shot, but it's about fucking time.
Went for a walk at lunch. Found some guy's wallet outside of Boston Market. Handed it to the manager on duty. In retrospect, I could probably have dialed 411 on my cell phone, gotten the guy's number, and left him a message, or called the cops myself.
Still need to rent a wood chipper. Preferably one big enough to digest a 200 pound redneck, albeit unburdened by a conscience or sense of honor. [note: this is not, in fact, a reference to GWB]

The words "face man" come to mind.

Sorry, bullshit. He's got a national address planned for Thursday? WTF? He was soaking up camera juice immediately after the 9/11 attacks. I guess it's a lot easier for his handlers and spin doctors to make him look good when he's defending the country from homespun terrorists than it is to make him look good for being devastatingly clueless and surrounded by such staggering incompetence that the consequences have assumed historic proportions.
I don't feel even the slightest bit better about his "admission". It's just a smoke screen so he won't have to hold any of his supporters accountable. After all, the buck stops with him, right? Now he can stay surrounded by these boobs and stay shielded from American reality.

And, more importantly, did your clan weather the storm OK?

Mom did amazingly well. Coelo came away with minimal damage on the home front. And out of the the NOLA contingent, the ones I'm keeping the closest eye on seem to be recovering, but even so, there's no joy in Mudville :/
Wrapped up in the NOLA area as I am, I've utterly failed to ask if you guys took any damage when the storm blew your way? Hopefully none or at least no more than friends and beer couldn't sort out in a weekend.
Regardless, this whole mess has rather re-oriented me mostly away from bitterness now to smarmy sentimentalism. I might stay tucked under my rock, but you and K are most definitely in my thoughts. Dunno that I'll ever be able to watch another storm warning with quite the same bland "oh, they'll be all right" approach. We've all seen where that leads :/

My sentiments exactly. Well said.

Jon Stewart compared Bush's current situation to Clinton's MonicaGate - a situation wherein many Democrats had to either condemn Clinton's poor judgement for his sexual activities (which, IMO, really aren't anyone's business other than his and Hilary's) or risk losing their own credibility; now, Stewart feels, many Repugnicans have a similar choice. (Stewart goes on to say that the only real difference is that tens of thousands of innocent people weren't stranded in Monica Lewinsky's vagina.)
"Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said some military aircraft and other equipment may be able to move out of the Gulf Coast soon. 'We've got to the point where most if not all of the search and rescue is completed,' said Rumsfeld."
Does this mean we're going to have Shrub on the deck of a Coast Guard rescue boat, floating down Bourbon Street, under a 'Mission Accomplished' banner?
As for the accusations of Kerry being a waffler... even taking into account that some of the quotes here (http://www.onlisareinsradar.com/archives/001279.php) are taken out of context, this Daily Show clip transcends humor and exposes Bush plainly for doing exactly what he said he wouldn't do before he was elected...
