Just because I'm feeling like firing a shot across his bow, utterly unheeded, here's some of the finer print from the DoI, talking about another asshole named George:

The history of the present King is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

- He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

- He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them. [2000 election, anyone?

- He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only. [see also: texas voting district shenanigans]

- He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures. [this is the same guy who didn't stop reading a story about a goat on 9/11, and couldn't cut his vacation short for Hurricane Katrina, but signed a bill into law after midnight in the midst of the Terry Schiavo fiasco]

- He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people. ["anyone who opposes the patriot act is on the side of the terrorists"]

- He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers. [Karl Rove and Dick Cheney, please pick up the white courtesy phone]

- He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance. [Dep't of Homeland Security, anyone?]

- He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures. [see previous item, and also those lovely gentlemen on hire from Halliburton et al to help maintain "peace" in places like New Orleans]

- He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation: [this doesn't even bear editorializing on, does it?]

- For protecting [troops], by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States: [see also: Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, et al]

- For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury: [see previous item]
- For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences [and again, "non-combat" my ass]

- For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments: [again with the no comment necessary]

- For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever. [see also the lionizing of any dissenting viewpoint]

- He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation. [No Shit.]


. . . and people wonder why I'm openly seditious.

The government is broken, people. The last time things were this fucked up, we had to found a new nation to get rid of the asshats.

Two hundred and thirty years between reboots sounds like a pretty good run. I, for one, advocate hitting the big red switch.

Hitting that switch, while certainly desirable, would lead to a host of problems that show just how dirty and miserable such a fight can be.
The bigger question is not whether to hit that switch, but if one can bear the responsibility for the loss of life that would be prevalent during such a change.

It's been going down that road. I don't find this some new phenomenon. How can it possibly be improved with the politcal mindset of both parties? None of them are interested in protecting the rights of the individual.

I so wish there was a simple way to tackle the problems. But, other than turning us all into borg - there just isn't. Welcome to the human race. Now, find me an island(*) so I can get away from it.

* one that of course offers me the comforts of modern life - cause you know, as much as the life of a hermit sounds enticing, it's just not as much fun without a microwave, booze and porn.
