[my letter to The Impaler]
Jon-
I learned of your nascent candidacy from http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060112/ap_on_fe_st/impaler_for_gov.
I'm sure you mean well, and, on the whole, I agree with you that the current political system is badly flawed.
However, as both a concerned citizen, general freak, and political aspirant myself, I harbor grave (pardon the pun) concerns about the image you're portraying, and feel that your current approach is solidly in the "doing more harm than good" realm.
"Shock and awe" isn't precisely a tenable strategy for international diplomacy, and I highly doubt that it will carry the day here at home. By perpetuating caricatured, negative, and outre stereotypes, you are only serving to reinforce the misconception by the American people that all of us of a slightly darker bent are misguided, Satan-worshipping freaks, and this seriously undermines our credibility and viability as public figures.
As a founding member of the Wild Turkey Party (you can see discussion of our platform and values at http://www.livejournal.com/community/wildturkeyparty/ ), I do have a personal stake (pun not intended) in our perception by the population as a whole.
I don't envy you the challenges you'll face in your pursuit of office, but cannot in good conscience support your candidacy.
Good luck. I'm afraid you'll need it.

Thank you for your email and your honesty. You would be surprised how people are reacting to my candidacy. Though some think it is off the wall, about half fully support impaling terrorist.

Impaling terrorists..... yes I could see the appeal but I don't necessarily want to see it put into practice.

I lost some credence in him when he was discussing Anakin Skywalker as a "historical figure."
