this is why i'm such a staunch isolationist on occasion.
i still don't grok why these obviously-divided nations bother trying to stay together (look at eastern europe and the former soviet union, currently populated with several different flavors of Whathefuckistan and Miscellurbia) - these people hate each other, why continue to try and force them to get along? and, similarly, if these people want to kick one another's ass over some godforsaken desert. . . why are we stopping them?
i mean, the united states is taking such an -active- role in curtailing the genocidal hostility in africa... [/sarcasm]
"this war is not about oil." wtfever.
[this is also my response to the talk on NPR about the shiites, kurds, and sunnis all being ticked off at and trying to kill one another in the wake of the iraqi elections.]
I am so sick of this "my god can beat up your god" bullshit that i'm finding the option of letting them try to settle it via body count less and less onerous. iirc, israel has nukes, and the palestinians don't. that, to me, makes it sound like it will be a very short and one-sided engagement if Hamas decides to be truly egregious asshats.

Sometimes I think it is better to be seperated from religion because than you do not find fault in others because of what they believe in. If the world was more open minded people might see that it doesn't matter what you believe in but only that you believe. Let the morons fight each other. Maybe than there might be peace, after it is all done.
