Mutual of Gothopia's Wild Kingdom

Lamia's pants are growing back; the stress of having feline guests and everything else is finally done. The ferals have had kittens, two of three have survived, and once they're weaned, we're going to get all of them fixed. To facilitate that, both parents (yearlings) have been much more socialized, and even approach for petting, rather than simply when food is put out.

Most of the folks at the Memorial Bash saw something out of the ordinary - a quintet of juvenile screech owls perching on the power lines in front of the house.

Home Projects

Got all but one segment of the lattice surrounding the bottom of GMBAN painted and installed; the delay with the last piece is because I want to jack up the addition at the rear of the utility room 3/4" so that it's level again. Hopefully, I won't need to go all the way to the Carrollwood Home Despot to rent a jack this time (Big Lots had a set of 3-ton jack-stands, which I picked up on the cheap before I realized that they're just for holding something up, not actually lifting it. Whoops. But, still, for $12, they'll come in handy).

Once that's taken care of, it's time to make the $150 home inspection appointment so that I can double the cost of my homeowner's insurance. *sigh*

Gaming

I've finally gotten slightly re-motivated about playing WoW (wanting to "twink," or over-equip, a low-level character in order to engage in PvP team events), but am still taking a relative hiatus from it, and engaging in shorter sessions. Civ4 and the Xbox still get poked at a bit.

Looking forward to getting back into the dice habit once [livejournal.com profile] critus' run of We Won't Pay! We Won't Pay! is complete (incidentally, locals - hie thee to TBPAC and give it a look; much fun in the I Love Lucy vein). Grok says hello (or, at least, he's waving his axe in a non-threatening manner).

Workout/Health

Getting back on the wagon after the holiday and the pre/post festival plague. I'd like to be in this kind of shape for my birthday, or at least Dragon*Con (not worrying overmuch about what the scale/gravity says, but I figure something in the low to mid 160's isn't a bad arbitrary target). Making sure I'm getting about 3 liters of fluid a day, and trying to switch to healthier snacks, in addition to being a bit more frugal (both calorie and dollar-wise), and more dilligent about the gym time. I may shift to the Brandon branch of Lifestyles, and just go on my way home, or drop the membership altogether and just lift at the workout center at my office's HQ building at lunch or after work. Not sure how I'm going to incorporate fat-burning cardio work (I'm not a fan of treadmills, and hauling my ass all the way to St. Pete to use the rollerblading trail isn't a viable option). I'll figure something out.

Even though it's not very strength-building, cardio is the only thing that makes me lose weight. It seems to matter much more than what I eat or how many calories I'm burning in other ways. It might just be me, though.

I'm finding it difficult to justify maintaining an entire gym membership just to go to spin class twice a week. If I keep up a three-times-a-week schedule (probably wed/thurs/sun), it's less vexing, but still... *ponder*

It's not that I want to "lose weight" per se (only about ten pounds), it's that I want to stop occluding my midsection with evolutionarily-sound but aesthetically-unpleasant caloric storage.

Yeah, justifying a gym membership became harder and harder for me for the reason you mention. Most of the time, I was going in for 30 minutes at a time for the use of an elliptical machine. Then, we got wise and bought an elliptical machine for home. We've had it two years, it still works great, and it's now paid for itself and then some. Audio books can make cardio tolerable.

the only place i have room for an elliptical or something similar is, unfortunately, the garage... which is nowhere near air conditioned.

We are on for this week...I've got the reins for the forseeable future...but it's all right...you can trust me...
