Finished with the "wake up at the asscrack and drive to _____ to install stuff" project at work. Thank god for mileage allowance and OT to make it moderately worthwhile.

Safety tip: don't ingest Friday's sandwiches on monday, even if they're in the fridge. Had an unpleasant evening of the creeping gastrointestinal stupids yesterday afternoon, and went to bed by 8pm, to have something between a lucid dream and a sci-fi hallucination featuring the transferrence of consciousness among several amorphous but substantial and interconnected Klein-bottle-shaped beings, a trio of which may or may not have represented me. Let's just say I rolled around in bed a lot and my brain did what it could to assert its independence from my abdomen before my alarm went off at 430 this morning.

Which, weird as it fucking is, is still a damn sight better than Sunday night's dreams, where I was in a village full of scared peasants being shelled by what I assume to be Quassam rockets (in the dream, that's what I thought they were - about the size of a human arm or leg, anyways); barrage after barrage lit the night, about 3 in 5 exploding after striking their target, the rest hitting as duds (including one, fortunately, that struck me in the left thigh and hurt like a motherfucker, but at least it didn't explode like the one ten feet behind me did). I recall taking shelter in a wooden, one-room structure like a low schoolhouse or inn, with fifty or so other people, and then stepping outside when another fusillade approached, and shouted "Incoming," but almost nobody heard me or got out before three or four hit it. Yeah, that was a fun time.

Joined the weight-loss challenge at work (10/2-12/11), along with a couple of other guys in my department and [livejournal.com profile] critus; I have informally dubbed our team "ShrinkGeek."

Dragon*Con is this weekend. Should be fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing folks.

The wedding last weekend was pleasant. It was casual enough, and we got to have some downtime with her folks and bro/sis-in-law/niece, which I know she was craving.

Finally picked a copy of Dzur, and it's as enjoyable as all the rest of Brust's stuff, though I've (unforuntately) been reading it when I can barely keep my eyes open; much like the others, it'll be read and re-read a few times, I'm sure.

I need to get off my ass and start writing (again); of the half-dozen notions I've stuck pins through and affixed to card stock, hopefully one of them will bleed usefully (I'd really like to get into Polyphony 7; nothing like having a target that's not easy to reach to start with, neh?

Hey, look us up. I forgot that you guys were going. We have some friends that are having a room party on Friday and I am told I can invite more people as long as I have a head count.

e-mail me at j at nener dot com and I will give you my cell number.

We leave out of here on Thursday morning and are staying in the Hyatt.

The review on the B&N site is terrible. (The review, mind you, not the book. I liked the book.)

Although I can't decide if I love or hate the "...and Aliera (though she initially is a bit wooden)..." comment. I'd probably like that line if they hadn't already mentioned she's trapped in the fucking staff.

[this isn't the first time she's been trapped in a staff, iirc]

D-oh! Sorry. It was in the review on that page so I thought you'd already caught that bit.

Of course, the plot you're talking about is for a different book altogether... :-)

Don't forget to give my mate a hard time... er, I mean show him a good time. Yeah... that's what I meant. :-)

Have a goodun yerselves as well. Sorry I could not have come too, but the mate and I had two vacations together this year, and are having one apart each. I'll send hugs with the man (though I am quite certain some that were intended for you will wind up with Kim, so you'll just have to get them from her).
