Lacking any discernible geologic features to migrate, I had to modify [livejournal.com profile] xany_hellion's lo-tek workout recommendation ("Take shovel, move hill. Repeat until buff"), and instead demolished about 300 square feet worth of pernicious and tenacious ivy (when the first good yank dislodges a section of chain-link fence, I think it's safe to say that the plant wins), as well as pruned some low-hanging branches.

I will probably continue these shenanigans throughout the week/weekend, both to get rid of the shitty chainlink fence, get some exercise in a productive manner, and try to figure out if anything useful can be done with my backyard before doing away with the waste of space known as my garage once Jeeves' stuff is all out of it.

Replenished my stockpile of herbal supplements preparatory to my office's weightloss challenge, which begins on 10/2... naturally, because I was hoping to put on a few "cheater" pounds to help Team ShrinkGeek... I'm down 4 pounds.

Company softball team is a good time, even if we're 1-1 by dint of our opposition not showing up for the first game. I wish we had a chance to take some batting practice, because the only time I get to swing the stick is when it matters, and I know I'm uppercutting the ball too much to clear a 250' fence, but have the pop to do so. Note to self: be more selective at the plate; you're fast on the bases even if you don't know what the fuck you're doing.

K is, unsurprisingly, kicking a ton of ass at her part-time job, but that, coupled with a couple of excessively early mornings and a couple late nights, had her feeling pretty well wiped, so it was a fairly quiet weekend around the homefront; some gaming, some football-watching, the usual. I may need to go pick up Midway Arcade Classics 3 (we already have 1 & 2) purely on the strength of a ludicrously silly hour spent at Casa de [livejournal.com profile] critus playing Rush 2049 with him, the boys, and [livejournal.com profile] draxzaster.

The guy who initially responded to my craigslist post about the stereo equipment I had for sale flaked out. The temptation to just pawn shit at one of the myriad places near the house grows stronger.

All in all, not a whole lot to report of the earth-shaking variety these days.

Not so long from now, you'll be calling these the good ole days, heh.

For the weightloss challenge, go for water. Drink like a fish before our initial weigh-in. But be sure to drink up a few times afterward for any other weigh-ins until the final one so it doesn't look like you lost 7 lbs in a week.

As for the vines, I had to deal with that a few years ago:

Fun stuff. I drenched it in roundup before I tackled that project. But it didn't seem to help. By the time I was done, I was rolling up a chain link fence/vine mix to shove in the dumpster.

Plain old Roundup beat it back, eh? I've used it to temporarily good effect along some of the fenceline, but this is, essentially, half the yard (from the left side of the garage all the way around behind it to the back corner of the yard on the opposite side). Thick, leafy loam, shot through with white fibrous stuff. I'm gonna try and maul it with the lawnmower first, but the chainlink has got to go (fortunately, that side of the yard already has a nice high privacy fence put up by the neighbors, to corral their dogs).

We know from overgrown landscape.

True.

I think the long-delayed sledgehammer party may take place sometime over the cooler months.
