flight out friday was uneventful, but Really Fucking Early. got to vegas, slacked & walked around "Old Vegas" until
angelsil &
theonebob arrived [including some aggressively flavorless sushi & beer], then headed to the happy couple's room (everclear in tow) to distribute Mardi Gras beads, and then wandered down to Kahunaville (see
ladysoleil's recap - fabulous food, a lush-facilitating waitress who was easy on the eyes - all in all, a damn good time). stumbled drunkenly home afterwards (this was about the only truly drunken stumbling we did, actually).
saturday, TheOneCouple and K&I hit our hotel's casino lobby after foraging for breakfast, and discovered that we had an Elvira-themed slot machine ("Spooky Slots!"). This claimed many nickels.
[insert incoherent "where did we go, what did we do, which day and with whom?" mutterings - between the jet lag, the "casino atmosphere" (something between desperation and glee, caressed by cigarette smoke, and with a soundtrack only Pac-Man could love), and the general overstimulation and driving similarity between many of the places, my temporal dampening is pretty well shredded.
Saw the white tigers before we figured out which one was Sigfried, and which one is Roy.
We & TheOneCouple caught a bus 45 minutes before needing to be at the wedding chapel, which proceeded to take more than half an hour to drive the three or four miles between venues. We got off, panicky and hot, and proceeded to very nearly RUN the last quarter mile to Treasure Island, making it in mere moments before the ceremony started. It was rather nice and non-denominational, and included some truly cute touches courtesy of the bride (she can share). The only casualty was Sil's sunglasses (which got dropped & were stepped on by Yours Truly), but our luck turned and we found the lens in the casino walkway afterwards.
[insert Sil's Hard Rock Quest here]
[insert pleasant reception dinner here, replete with mardi gras beads for all and sundry]
Then it was off to the Star Trek Experience & Quark's Bar. The Experience itself was cool - not twenty-five bucks' worth of cool, but definitely ten or fifteen bucks' worth. I could definitely get a job as a Ferengi or Klingon, if need be. seeing my old friend Erika just about tweeking out to orgasm on the bridge was an amusing surprise.
Breakfast, wandering, the occasional binge at the penny, nickel, or quarter slot machines with the newlyweds and
bitogoth(before hanging at the Honeymooners' room and seeing Bitogoth off. Repeat on Monday, with M hitting it pretty well on the dollar slots.
We wanted to see animals - having missed the cat paradise, we tried the shark tank at Mandalay Bay - time shortage and the fact that the exhibit is not worth the $15 admission nixed that, so we trundled about the south end of the strip and checked out the hotels there. let me just say, he Luxor fucking r0x0rs inside.
Monday evening, K & I met up with one of my college buddies (who now does light tech for the Mirage) and had dinner with his wife & son. Their house is way west of downtown, almost at the edge of the valley. they have a beautiful house, an amazing view, and a lousy baby. hopefully, it'll grow out of its issues *shrug*
Let me just say that, even after three years in rural PA and my year here in NOLA, I have never, ever, EVER seen so many grotequely obese people, or this concentration of truly blue-ribbon mullets in one place before in my life.
Botched our flight out by mis-reading the itinerary, but made up for it slightly by hitting it "big" on the dollar slots at our hotel to the tune of about a hundred bucks (which covered our previous losses), which crimped sushi dinner plans with
__masque, who we at least caught up with for drinks and conversation. Lovely, lovely.
Jetlag, sobriety, and exhaustion suck.
