Bush To Be Dictator In A Catastrophic Emergency
by Lee Rogers
Stuff like this is why I think the DC sniper had poor target selection.
Originally, I had included the text of Rogers' essay here. Having done some additional research into the source document itself, I have something a bit more incisive to contribute.
From the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive itself:
(5) The following National Essential Functions (NEFs) are the foundation for all continuity programs and capabilities and represent the overarching responsibilities of the Federal Government to lead and sustain the Nation during a crisis, and therefore sustaining the following NEFs shall be the primary focus of the Federal Government leadership during and in the aftermath of an emergency that adversely affects the performance of Government Functions:
(a) Ensuring the continued functioning of our form of government under the Constitution, including the functioning of the three separate branches of government;
Which is to say, nothing too much like what we're doing on a day-to-day basis, what with the hamstringing of the Judiciary and ignoring the Legislative by the expediency of unwillingness to debate, or the inclusion of questionable signing statements....
(b) Providing leadership visible to the Nation and the world and maintaining the trust and confidence of the American people;
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHHAAAAAAA. Ahem. Right, because they're doing such a bang-up job of it on a daily basis NOW.
(c) Defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and preventing or interdicting attacks against the United States or its people, property, or interests;
I've made the argument before that, on this point alone, the current Administration should be tried for treason and removed from office, if not summarily executed.
(d) Maintaining and fostering effective relationships with foreign nations;
See item (b).
(e) Protecting against threats to the homeland and bringing to justice perpetrators of crimes or attacks against the United States or its people, property, or interests;
See item (b).
(f) Providing rapid and effective response to and recovery from the domestic consequences of an attack or other incident;
Hey, New Orleans, you hear that? "Rapid and effective response to and recovery from ... an incident." HELP IS ON THE MOTHERFUCKING WAY, YO. See also: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA LIES.
(g) Protecting and stabilizing the Nation's economy and ensuring public confidence in its financial systems; and
If you're a rich fuck, we got your back.
(h) Providing for critical Federal Government services that address the national health, safety, and welfare needs of the United States.
... as long as you aren't poor, indigent, non-white, young.... because we can't fucking provide decently for our citizens on an average day, what makes you think we're not gonna let you fuckers rot and die when the fit hits the shan?
They may call my opinion sedition. I call it patriotism.
