[livejournal.com profile] ikilled007, I'll see your big cat porn and raise you seeing the elephants mating at the Lowry Park Zoo last weekend. So, not only did The Neice get to be an object of keen interest to the Florida Panther cub, get some hands-on time with the baby kangaroo, and generally get the princess treatment from the grandparents, she got to see a functioning (if tentacular) cock who didn't have to steal an election.

At least today is substantially less hellish at the office than the last two have been - due, primarily, to being very shorthanded, compounded by an overdeveloped sense of duty (I MUST ANSWER THE DAMNED PHONE, BIOLOGICAL IMPERATIVES BE DAMNED! Yeah. I'm a goddamned idiot who put the tech support of others ahead of such things as my need for lunch). If nothing else, my walls o' text to my boss about the shortcomings of the situation will provide leverage and ammunition in our quest for a headcount increase. But, yeah. All work and no lunch makes Rafe a cranky (okay, more cranky) bastard. So, yeah. It's time for a much-needed weekend. Gonna kill digital critters, if not brain cells, this evening.[1]

Working Saturday this week, at the office. Boo. My hit list is indeed thrilling - rebuild one machine, install updates to another. Ooh. Baby.

Need to do a spot of shopping before the [livejournal.com profile] gothcruise; definitely need a new swimsuit, and a pair of jeans wouldn't hurt. First of the CDs I'll be spinning from during my turn was burned last night - I'm trying to balance "Inflict what *I* like on people" with "Get people's asses up and moving" and "Try not to make everyone wince *all* the time."

Speaking of shopping, there's been a relative frenzy of that lately - Best Buy tempted me (when I was picking up the DDR2 for K's new/interim mobo setup) with both the Legendary Edition of Halo 3 (what can I say, I thought having the Master Chief's brain bucket was worth it) and an early XMS present for [livejournal.com profile] aishlynn - one of those light-up keyboards she'd had her eye on covetously. And a good thing, too - her cheap-ass USB keyboard shit the bed this week, so I was able to gift her with it early, rather than keep it sequestered in my Fortress of Soli-- office. Also in that vein was the beginning of the procurement of the Quad Damage project - the quartet of matching, reasonably-priced quad-core systems that [livejournal.com profile] mighty_man and I dreamed up to get both of us, along with K and Baal, close to current (and capable of playing Supreme Commander sweetly) come January. Newegg has the Antec 900 on special this week with a promo code (comment or email me for it - I'm happy to share the love that is one of the finest cases extant) - $95 with free shipping, marked down from $130.

For those of you who may have missed it, tickets for C14 are on sale, and we're making progress on signing bands, venues, and all that sort of thing. Feel free to spread the love and propaganda (banners coming soon, courtesy of our web minion, [livejournal.com profile] mykal).

[1] To the shock of pretty much everyone, I've only had two beers since Labor Day weekend[2], and only two other drinks besides (one of which was an experiment at TBBC on Sunday, since they had a Japanese scotch on their specials board, and I figured "why not?" Why Not turns out to be, "12 year old Japanese scotch tastes like 12 year old real scotch, but with 'mild fallout' as an aftertaste." The nose is good, it's got a decent, if slightly tart body, but the finish was a little peculiar. I had it neat, which is my preferred style; maybe water or rocks would have helped it some).

[2] The reason for which is my continued annoyance with gravity's affection, and my efforts to lessen it. They're finally starting to bear fruit; I'm 2/3 of my way from 185 to 155, despite a frustrating (and to hear my parents tell it, genetically impossible) lack of ab definition - apparently, even when my dad was doing marathons, he didn't have it. Dammit. Oh well; I'll content myself with nice shoulders and legs, but still want to keep things healthy.

There is apparently a plan afoot at work to field a team of 5k runners at a race or two come winter/spring, so I've resumed jogging, and can bang out a couple of 9 minute miles without stopping so far. That, in conjunction with the KB stuff, ought to keep me where I want to be (I am pleased that the heart monitor at MOSI gave my BP as 112/62, which I believe, but I remain a little skeptical of the resting heart rate of 48).

That's about all I've got. Here's Dave with Sports....

Bah. I can get my legs and shoulders with a week's diligence at the gym; the back takes a bit more doing, but, apparently, I come from generations of men on both sides who carry any and all their caloric storage low and in front.

Dom's metabolism combined with the fact that he can keep toned muscle with NO effort....make most of the population sick :)
