I'm really, REALLY liking the Mini-ITX format.
www.mini-itx.com has some excellent ideas going on, and it's nice to see media + noiselessness starting to get serious play...

that's why there's a lot of folks moving back towards lower-potency (so to speak) chips, like the C3 processor, etc, that can get away with passive cooling, or a single quiet fan.

then again, in my home box right now, far and away, the loudest component is my freaking HARD DRIVE. god, do i love the watercooling goodness. . . might need to look into one of those hard drive silencing packages, and a small, quiet, exhaust blower for the top 5.25 bay, to get the hot air out from underneath the radiator. . . .

Less heat = less need for cooling = good thing down here in the flaming hot South, also.

The water cooling sounds sexy, but after hearing about how you wound up swapping out mobo's and otherwise farking around at levels that have me wincing, I'm not sure it's ready for prime time?

This (http://www.mini-itx.com/reviews/hush/) is my idea of quiet. In black, although the gold isn't too hideous...

the swap was my own fault - using arctic silver thermal grease, which is conductive, i wasn't careful enough while applying it. two minutes with an alcohol swab, and things are well beyond fat & happy (good 2367 mhz, 206fsb x 11.5 at present)

and, yeah, those little boxes are very appealing. . . i'm thinking that, finances willing, something along those lines will be K's xms or b-day present several months from now. . . *G*
